I have several Phlox in the garden that are starting to bud up but one variety(the name escapes me) is, for the second year making no attempt. It's not over crowded ,doesn't need dividing ,hasn't been overfed ,it's in full sun and good soil...so why isn't it flowering?

Well, it seems you have all the angles covered Lolimac :) Watered well?
Do you think you should wait a tad longer this year before judging it? To try and hasten things though, give it a twice weekly high potash feed.
    I also think it’s a later season this year.....maybe by 3 weeks!!:noidea:

In my experience phlox buds appear suddenly/ quickly...here mine started to show flower buds just a week ago when I saw nothing there at all before then. I fully expect mine to flower in a couple of days now.

If you can remember the variety too it may help......or it may be a poor clone; it does happen. :)

@lolimac Mine ar just about flowering. Considering that our climate is probably worse than yours, then yes, I would think that something is wrong. Mine at least seem to prefer the semi-shade of an East border. Maybe its the fact that they are in full sun, and perhaps need watering to help them along?:dunno:

    Hiya lolimac...

Don’t know that one but it looks a beauty. Must have it :)

Apparently, Blue Paradise is a free flowering variety
I have a feeling you may be a tad impatient because it looks healthy enough to me, nothing apparently wrong so fingers crossed for you:)

Bet in 2 weeks you will be telling us it’s flowering :)

I have 2 growing side by side that should be flowering over the weekend and I’m impatient too:)

My Phlox on the south wall are well in flower, but the others in the north facing bed are in bud as are clumps at the top corner which is a sun-trap now.. I adore the smell here f them as they take me back to what was my favourite childhood years with my grandparents in their huge garden so have squeezed them in in pertinent spots in my gardens I get to smell them and sometimes have a daydream of days gone by.. Yeah I know silly old sentimental sod.!:heehee:
