Chillies 2019

My chilli plants are thriving in terms of bushiness and lots of small fruits coming through, but they are all incredibly floppy, with most of them needing staking or other supports. Looking at everyone's photos on here that doesn't seem to be the norm - is there something I should/shouldn't have done? No greenhouse here so they're outside all the time now, in sheltered full sun.

 

@2nd_bassoon are your chillies in pots or in the ground? I have greater success with pot grown as long as it is at least 3 liters and I add lots of crushed up eggshells to their soil. Course I have different conditions most of the year but right now we're about the same, temperature wise.

I think you're right to stake them.

 

I often stake my chillies, although they are growing in pots outside now. If they are carrying a weight of a crop, they can get buffeted in the wind. So I stake, and sometimes group the plants as well....

@CanadianLori they're in pots, though I was probably a bit late moving them up into their 3L final homes (poorly timed holiday!) so maybe that's why they're not quite as sturdy as I expected.

 

I am happy to report that I now have lovely peppers forming and pointing skyward in Canadian Shineyland. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, my Shineyland is my 6x4 greenhouse dedicated to chillies grown from seeds generously given to me by @shiney and they are an exclusive specialty hybrid cultivated by the Shineys. Sooo looking forward to harvest!

 

First things I'm going to make with them are bread and some jelly. Then when it's cranberry harvesting toime, I'll make a spicy cranberry sauce will be with these. I will need a name for it though. Perhaps MnH Gobbler's Revenge

 

Yes, one of them is loaded with yellow fingers pointing skyward and the others are packed with blossoms. Totally thrilled with all this! Thank you again @shiney for getting me started on these lovely chillies

 

Repotted all the chillies today, I know I'm not going to get any fruit this year but one of the reapers has very tiny buds, the plants are no more than 4" or 5" tall should i remove any buds/flowers for this year when they are big enough or let them alone?

 

Reapers are generally tiny chillies. I wouldn't lose hope yet. I believe your last frost is much longer than mine so I'd wait and see.
