For @Nikolaos - try this for size................

Totally epic in its scale it just keeps building and building. Terrific musicianship.

Linda Perry is a really underrated artist..............

Duetting with the great Grace Slick for The Crow soundtrack...............

My partner is a fair bit younger than me and she has developed an unexpected (:heehee:) interest in Joy Division and eighties music..............

    Nine minutes of eighties heaven................

Thirty one years since this was released.................

@longk I've always liked the Fall but not enough to get one of their albums. This Mortal Coil are just fantastic but my favourite 4AD bands are Dead Can Dance and The Cocteau Twins, the former being my favourite band ever I think! Grace Slick, I love her stuff with Jefferson Airplane, especially "Surrealistic Pillow". Have an awesome live bootleg of theirs still somewhere!

Joy Division and Sonic Youth, two of my favourite bands! Have you read Deborah Curtis' book? Quite interesting. :) I haven't kept up with Sonic Youth since buying "A Thousand Leaves" which I thought was one of their best! Like The Velvet Underground, they simply make beautiful noise! Have they released anything decent since?

Well of course she has, you're basically not human if you're not a fan! :roflol:

A lot of people forget that it was 4AD who first signed the Pixies. Continuing the '80's theme this is from their first album.............

I haven't. That said Control is one of my favourite films. It was directed with so much love by Anton Corbijn as he was close to the band.

They effectively split in 2011 when Kim Gordon discovered Thurston Moores 'mid life crisis' (in the form of an extra marital affair with a younger woman!). The last album, The Eternal of 2009, was their most succesful as far as the Billboard 100 goes and the final track9of what is now their last album) was Massage The History. If you had planned it you could not have signed off in a better way..............

Agreed. Moving on from Joy Division she is in love with New Orders first single............

It was the last thing that they worked on with Ian and it had to be the first New Order single. There is also a great cover by radiohead on You Tube.

Steven Morris is a human metronome! This shambolic performance is epic and it really shows Morris off, especially when you consider that he had a raging hangover at the time..............

          Some Americana now;
The best band that no one has ever heard of in my opinion..............

Another relatively unknown American band are The Walkabouts............

John Grant (this is a little sweary in places).............

          The Willard Grant Conspiracy...........

Explosions In The Sky are basically an instrumental band but are pure class..............

I don't really think of music in that way usually, but I had a think about it and this fella is probably mine, almost always brings a smile to my face however crappy I'm feeling... :) Just unpretentious, pure joy!

Listened to this album earlier, absolutely love it...

Thanks! Ooh, I want the album now, recently their mellower moments are so melancholic but inspiring!

Was listening to these two albums again last week, they're just so brilliant! Those earlier albums have a rawness which I adore...

On the subject of punk (I think of punk as being a very broad category and more of an attitude than a genre, which is why I include SY), do you know these? Not my politics but the lyrics are great and the harmonies are amazing!

@longk I saw John Grant last year. Great performance.

Queen of Denmark and Pale Green Ghosts almost blew you out of your seat. Big bloke, big voice

                  Totally! My favourite is Goo.

I agree again! The late Tony Wilson was as punk as it got - have a go, make it up on the hoof and see what happens!

I sort of knew about them and then they fell off my radar for some reason. Thanks, it's time to reacquaint myself I think.

                  Lucky sod!
Sinead O'Connor has done a great cover of Queen Of Denmark.............

Today was a Pearl Jam day..............

You're bringing back some great memories for me with that last post @longk! :) Saw Pearl Jam during the Vitalogy period, was at the Birmingham NEC, if I remember correctly. Brilliant gig and they played ever song I was hoping they would! "Black" and "Immortality" were particularly good that night, loads of songs from the Vitalogy album!

I've never seem Pearl Jam but I was able to relive some memories late last year when Libby got us tickets to see Underworld. So many oldies like me there along with so many youngsters (like Libby) and we were all 'having it'! The only difference was that I saw them 'back in the day' and for her it was the first time.
Born Slippy was inevitably the highlight..............

                    The ultimate late night track...........
