Probably the bouyancy sp?was also quite helpful and calming. And of course, the scents from the plants. Living the dream

 

It's good to hang onto an honest computer repairer. Just about 2 minitues walk away, is a local shop. This guy has become 'well known' to many. A fault of mine is. I'm too honest for my own good. A few times, I'd carry my tower unit to his counter. Silly me, I admitted I new now't about computers. His other skill was stitching. Yes, he stiched me up more than once.

Now any problems, my computer goes to a chap in Welling. Kent. He and his family and staff I can trust.
Most other problems with machinery etc, perhaps like our friend Retired. Give it a tap with a 3lb engineers hammer.

Hope you and Sheal can one day get your pictures and data back.

Picked 2lb more of blackberries from the garden

 

Just a bit of tidying today and making decisions about what changes need to be made for next year. We've already dumped the four "tree" roses we bought two years ago, they were a bit disappointing and we'll be replacing them with David Austin varieties later this year. The ceramic pots have been stored carefully in the garage.

Next thing on the agenda is our Stella cherry tree. We bought it last year, it has flowered and produced some fruit, but I don't think it's happy in this big tub. The roots get too warm in the summer and it needs constant watering.It's already shed some leaves.



The problem is where to put it in a border, as they're pretty much packed solid.

It's going to go between the end of the azaleas and the beginning of the rockery.




I'll remove some rocks and the nearest of the two small Chinese witch hazels in November, plant it and put the rocks and plants back, its roots will remain cooler, out of the sun in the shadow of the fence. It's tall enough and be far enough away from the fence not to obscure the other plants.

I had a brilliant plan but as usual, it massively backfired.

In order to balance the serious stiffness in my lower body after yesterday's 5hrs walk (a day trip to Durham, as lovely as they get ) I decided today to finish clipping the hedge as the upper body stiffness was likely to balance out the lower body one. Doesn't quite work that way apparently.

Well, as they say about age, 48 is the new 84!

However, I'm happy with the hedge, and things in general. The back border was well worth the effort last year, now that the bamboo canes are multiplying prolifically it's actually quite nice to look at:

Took some more cuttings of the Fleabane as I have this brilliant plan for the impossible border at front. What could possibly go wrong?

Oh, and potted up Rosemary cuttings I had in a small vase, cursing that the leaves just turn brown on me. Well, the brown bits turned out, at closer inspection, to be a mass of roots. Planted up Pineapple top. Stole a glass of The Teenager's Prosecco.

It's back to work tomorrow, but this very long weekend has been a treat. Glorious weather, plenty of good activity, swarms of butterflies and bees. And a stork in Durham.

 

Decided to mow the lawns then it started to rain.....not much and I finished the mowing. Rain is about and more so tonight I think.
Deadheaded another helenium too.....took my life in my hands as it was swarming with bees. I took the view if I didn’t panic or bother them they would leave me alone....I didn’t and they did

I didn’t do much in mum’s garden yesterday. I cut back one of the marjoram in the gravel garden, and tied in the tomato plants again. Unpacked my box of plants again, and plunge-watered all the plants individually. Spoke encouraging words to them, and told them that soon they would be home, and free...

We managed to get mum to sit outside for a short time, although she kept on saying “so-and-so is growing well, it needs to be chopped down” - the total input from her in the garden. I wonder sometimes how my brother and I were allowed to grow, without being cut down again!!

When she went indoors, I pulled out the weeds from the patio, and cut out the non-variagated shoots from the euonymus.

 

Have the whole week off work . So I painted my shed



It’s not grey, it’s Lavender!

Spent today digging a new border as installing log roll plus the doggy defences. Is now covered with membrane as it won’t be planted for a few weeks as I need to divide some stuff when they’ve gone over.

 

It's raining so nothing today.

Have to admit. Quite a drop in temperature here today. Sitting room windows wide open. Mike lounging back in the armchair, enjoying the fresh air. I did doze off and an hour later work up froze. Nice though, after those hot, airless days.
