I do know that Packard Bell Easy Notes are notorious for this type of problem, which in older models is normally due to repeated overheating.but a friend of mine had the same trouble and this did work for her:smile:

Shutdown. remove your battery. disconnect your AC adapter. press the power button for 1 min. attach them all back again. and press power button:dunno:

If not get back to me and we can try something else:smile:

They also suffer quite badly as @wiseowl alluded to, from a failure of the BGA joints on some of the display output chips, usually caused by repeated overheating. I have my doubts that this is your problem though, as you are currently using it on a monitor/TV? If they had failed, it wouldn't display anything on anything

Good afternoon @pete my friend try this:smile::blue thumb:

Can you hear the or feel (place hand near exhaust vent on the underside of the laptop) if the fan is running at all?

If the fan is running try connecting an external monitor to the laptop's HDMI port and check if there is a display showing on it at all. Press Fn + F5 together to toggle through the display options of laptop only, external screen only and both on together.

Note: A TV can be used as an external monitor as long as it has HDMI inputs and that you have the appropriate HDMI cable to connect the laptop to the TV.

If the fan is not running try a power refresh and see if that resolves the problem:

Disconnect the charger from the laptop (if it is connected).

Remove the battery from the laptop

Press and hold the laptop’s Power button for 30 seconds and then release the button.

Reconnect and switch on the charger to the laptop (leave the battery out at this stage)

Try to turn on the laptop.

If it turns on and there is a display allow the laptop to boot all the way to the Windows desktop.

Allow the HDD activity to settle and then turn off the laptop in the normal manner.

When the laptop has completely shutdown, switch off the charger and disconnect it from the laptop.

Reinsert the battery into the laptop.

Reconnect and switch on the charger to the laptop.

Try to turn on the laptop.

If it turns on and there is a display allow the laptop to boot all the way to the Windows desktop.

Allow the HDD activity to settle and the check the charge status of the battery.

If it is charging, allow it to fully charge before switching of and disconnecting the charger from the laptop.

If that fails then I'd go with reseating the cables to the screen - back of the screen and on the main board, as has been suggested. Watch the videos first as you can do more damage if you disassemble in the wrong sequence and trap / tear cables.

Laptops get hot, cool down, warp/twist. Couple that with miniaturised components and opening /closing the lid and bad connections are aplenty.

If that fails then I'd take a punt on a new screen. The man board is ok (up to the screen driver side of things anyway).

The fan is working, a monitor is working.
The only thing not working is the screen.
Ive tried pressing Fn and F5 simultaneously and nothing happens.

Pretty much points to either the 30-pin connector running over the hinge to the screen, or the screen itself then. The LEDs and LED driver is all self-contained within the panel as far as I know. Obviously, this is without physical diagnosis. Panels run in around £25-£35, and they are not all that difficult to fit if you take your time and work methodically. The important thing is to make sure that you get the right length screws into the right places when you reassemble.

I've asked a mate at work to give me the details of whoever it was that sorted out his PC problems recently.

I dont trust myself playing around with it.

Alternatively, if you pad it really (really) well and pop it in a box, send it via someone like Hermes (cheap and cheerful), I am more than happy to take a gander at it for you - any repair is on a parts only basis though, labour is free.

Ensure you back up your photos and data etc, to an external drive, just in case !
Read too many posts/ articles of folk bemoaning the loss of theirs when the repair went wrong and they did not backup :sick0026:
