This year I've noticed this shrub? popping up everywhere, including our lawn. We live in the country with plenty of trees about, but can't seem to work out what this is. Any ideas? TIA

      Hi

the tree above it it could be the root stock it was grafted onto suckering , have you by mistake hit the roots with the lawn mower or dug around the tree.... and damage to roots can cause this .... see what the others think

The tree it's coming up near is a Copper Beech. I think there is Blackthorn about, so it could be that. Don't think I've seen any Willows about, but I think a neighbour down the road has some Poplars. It's also coming up in our lawn about 10m or so away. Tempted to dig one up and let it grow, to see.
