Sorry folks, I do actually have a job and a modicum of a life. Given that this is likely to be the last decent, warmish weekend we are likely to see, and the fact that I have stuff I need to do, it is not likely that I will be doing these today, but I will get to them at some point. Please bear in mind that it is September.

I was thinking about Christmas and it seems to me that I don't have a "favourite" part. Some like the music or the food or the company or...

I like them all, in measured proportions and was wondering if anyone else feels the same. Or do you have a part of the Christmas that stands out as the most important or favourite?

I thought everybody was joking on this thread, and that was the whole point of it, surely nobody thought we were all serious about Xmas in September?

                        I see what you mean @CanadianLori ...

I read out your comment to hubby, and his reply was “I like the way that it’s ok for us to make time for each other”.

In a similar vein, as a practising Christian who is surrounded by non Christian friends and family, I really enjoy the way it is more acceptable for me to go to church, that people sometimes even come with me!, that we listen to religious music without tuts...

I think it’s very much what you make of it. We don’t expect it to be perfect, by any means. Friends and family are more than welcome to join us as a couple, indeed we have a friend who comes to us most years - but we do our Christmas! In fact, we were talking about it recently, as last year she was a little grumbly that we didn’t do this, that, or the other. But as hubby said - we do what we do, that’s it! She can go into the city if she wants to, that’s fine, but don’t expect me to do crowds at Christmas.

Well, perhaps there are two kinds of Christmas, the one at home with family and friends, and the one for those with the moral courage and strength of mind to Believe, and celebrate in Church, the latter of whom I'm most jealous:love30:
I did once go to a Christmas service, but not in a grand Church or modest one, but in a Tin Shack in Aden in 1967 where the heat was overbearing. I have to say that I really enjoyed it and that particular experience lifted me up to a rare "spiritual" level. I don't know if that experience was due to the mostly Service people there, or the atmosphere within the Tin Shack where, still at Christmas people outside were still laying bombs and shooting, with intent to kill, at someone they hadn't met or knew the names of, but I came away thinking there was something extra good about that experience and Service, where even an unbeliever like me, was singing to a God I didn't believe in, surrounded by good people who did........an experience that has stayed with me all those years:love30:
But my cynical mind, only lets me believe in what I can see, hear, touch, taste and feel, plus the fact that my Mother gave me the middle name of Thomas:doh:, so I'm still a

It irks me, loli, when people refer to family who have passed on that they loved them, in past tense:wallbanging::doh:, as even though they're gone I love (present tense), now, the ones like my Father and Mother and, of course my Wife.:love30:, as I know you will never stop loving your Dad.

That reminds me (slightly) of a saying that I heard years ago and still like very much.

"You're lucky to marry the woman you love but even luckier to love the woman you marry".

It has been attributed to many people but I first heard it from an old man in Sierra Leone 57 years ago - and never forgotten it.
