No horror stories at all really Andy - the older ones can be a bit fickle in terms of their electronics, but a lot of that is caused by people not taking time to understand how they work before hacking into them (the vast majority switch on the negatives, so things will always test as being live which leads people up blind alleys).

Of course, there are certain responsibilities that come with owning a Jaguar. While they will cosset you in the manner to which you will become accustomed, they too need caring for in the manner that they are accustomed....

Earlier today, after a hard couple of weeks taking us around the country...

Actually really easy to achieve - I cheat, and use new stuff called Polar Seal from AutoGlym. 20ml in a snow foam lance, dry the car off and bingo, that is the result. I start with their Polar Blast which is the snow foam, then go over with a brush/sponge and a bucket of traditional car shampoo, before rinsing and then going to the Polar Seal - it can even be used on the wheels, is extremely hydrophobic, and it helps stop dirt sticking to the clean surfaces.

Prerequisite for Jaguar ownership! Am off too the car tomorrow (assuming it hasn’t been sold already)

Good grief, how did you ever get it parked with the window glasses totally opaque? Or did rain at home smooth the filth evenly?

When my vehicles get that nasty, I take them to the self serve to power wash (standing back well away so as not to have too high pressure on the surface) then bring them home for a hand wash. The only vehicle I take through an auto wash is the van. And that not very often even though it is just a utility vehicle.

That isn't dirt @CanadianLori - that is snow foam :heehee:

It is like a very thick soap solution that sticks like shhhhh... to a blanket, you spray it on using a snow foam lance, then you wash the car with a sponge or brush, rinse off and then apply the finisher. Here is a video of it going onto a car (starts about 4 mins in):

Too funny! I was thinking you must be a maniac to drive through all that muck! And I was thinking the wife must be a saint for accompanying you through those types of journeys!

I put my hands up. Over the years I like many motorist learned to maintane the cars owned by me. Mechanics OK. Cleaning and body repairs. No thank you.

Concerning Jags. I agree there is a lot going for them. On the matter of comfort. As previously mentioned. I've had the benefit of owning, driving and travelling in so many makes of cars. I now go back a few years to 1955. What's a few years between friends?

The firm of solicitors I was working for, had the annual dinner & dance at the Hyde Park Hotel in London. Around 0300hrs the next day, it was time to go home. the boss. Sir Thomas Stuart Overy had booked cars to take everyone home, Lands end to John O'gtoats. Cars used. Armstrong Siddley Sapphire Limosines. 7 seaters. To this very day, I claim this was the most comfortable, smoothest and quietest ride I ever experienced. No engine sound, no outside sound. Not certain but I think the gearboxes were preselective. Such a shame these cars are no longer made.

Anything like this one Lori ? Owned by Richard Carpenter, from The Carpenters. It really is an immaculate original car.
