            There are four Great White Egrets at Lodmoor reserve in Weymouth at present, more than Little Egrets. They are slightly taller than a Heron and are increasing in numbers annually.
            One flew off!

                In your garden @redstar ? looks like our Sparrowhawk but it is possibly a Cooper's Hawk as in the US Sparrowhawk often means Kestrel.:smile:

                    The other day I got into my car and drove to a friend's house 8 miles away. When I opened my car door a Painted Lady butterfly flew up from behind my seat and out of the door. Would I have taken it away from its habitat and would it affect how it lives? I felt a bit bad about it. :dunno:

                    @shiney, no, they don't live that long as they progress from Morocco in generations every 6-8 weeks even up as far as Norway! It doesn't have a particular habitat here, just where it can find a nectar source.

                    The 'white' Ruff has returned to Lodmoor RSPB in Weymouth for a second winter, it stayed last winter for 5 months, couldn't be bothered to migrate to Africa!
