I saw this and was reading through it.
We are free here but some of my customers have to pay which is around £36. This charge according to the council is due to them paying for the service from the contractors in our local area.

I've been paying for a garden bin for more than 10yrs I think its around £45 now.

    I found this line interesting.
"It's only fair that those households which have gardens and generate the waste pay for the service. This is why some councils charge for this as it's not a universal service."

Fair enough, but along those lines wouldn't it be fairer if households with more people pay more for their general rubbish collections?
My general waste and recycle bins are often less than half full when I put them out, most around here cant close the lid, and they have double sized bins.

Even know neighbours put some of their waste in my bin once I've put it out.

We don't have any garden rubbish removal. All garden rubbish goes into black bags in the black bin. We also have a green bin for recycling. This is at my moms.

I don't have anything. Living in a block of flats everything goes down a shute straight into a skip.

I believe that if you pay rates, the charge is buried in the bill somewhere while not being specifically itemed.:dunno::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

The green bin tax varies from council to council. I know they introduced it in Warrington about 3 years ago. So far our council have not introduced it, I am sure it is looming though.

Oh if Woking council can charge for something then they will! Don't even sell the stuff back either, just use it someplace else

You must come under Surrey CC there - we are the same, albeit under Spelthorne, and yes they charge for absolutely everything. Funny how the money never comes back out as easily though.

Apparently there's a £40 charge here in the Highlands, but as I live rurally there's no collection here. Anything I can't recycle, compost or burn means a twenty mile round trip to the amenity site.

Surrey council and several of their borough councils are mired in controversy and no-one trusts them. Possibly because they are categorically incapable of accomplishing anything, being transparent (or at least competent to hide it) and the people in lead positions are duplicitous toerags...

I read an article about this elsewhere, where it disclosed that some local authorities are making a big profit out of this (but are not proposing to pay gardeners for supplying them with their valuable garden waste).
