    Hi,

I sincerely hope time MIGHT be running out for you Mike and further hope it will remain MIGHT for a long time to come. I think as we start to age we think of our own mortality; when I started at my last job I was invited to join the works final salary pension this way back in 1979 and although we needed the money Bron and I opted to pay in 3% of my salary; in later years we increased this to 5%; I was able to retire in 2000 at the age of 53 enjoying life to the full with Bron as we still do. Just planning ahead and I've being doing as you're doing in my case disposing of my big heavy machinery knowing if anything untoward happened to me it would be less for Bron to worry about.

Thanks for asking Mike; regarding the TIG welder it's been nothing but trouble right from the very start; Bron kindly bought me the welder as a present; the previous owner living in Cornwall had bought it new but never used it stating it needed a 16A electrical supply which it does but he didn't have a 16A socket so he stored the welder under his bench brand new and unused. Having paid the money together with shipping costs; the courier informed us of the day of delivery but with our luck we stayed in all day only to have it delivered the next day.

The welder needed a number of items in order to use it; I fitted a 32A plug allowing it to connect to our mains via a 32A "C" type mcb. Tungstens; collets and collet holders were bought as were assorted welding rods; personal safety I take care of and bought a top quality auto welding helmet these at around £400 each so eventually I was finally seated with the welder switched on and adjusted; I made a mess of the initial welds in aluminium but was just starting to make good progress when there was a loud explosion just behind me followed by the workshop quickly filling with dense smoke; the welder had exploded; two large electrolytic capacitors had expired in grand style. The welder is in under warranty being repaired and the way I feel about it I doubt I'll ever be using it again because I no longer trust it; the guy dealing with me has been on holiday this week so hopefully I'll be able to sort something out next week; the company sells second hand welders as well as new welders; I've offered cash in the hope of part exchanging my welder against a brand new welder.

In fairness to the welder I don't know under what conditions it had been stored for the year so I'm not throwing stones; I'm disappointed though in that Bron bought the welder for me only for this to happen.

A further problem was when I paid £284 for a 30L pure argon cylinder only to find out that I shouldn't have been charged VAT on the cylinder deposit amounting to around £28; I politely requested a refund on the grounds that VAT isn't chargeable on fully returnable deposits; this was flatly refused and I was called RIDICULOUS both by email and on an open forum; had the money been refunded I'd still be a customer but because of the insult I've sent all the details to HMRC to report the gas supplier and await reply. The supplier openly stated the VAT was being charged because his company didn't know how long the cylinder would be away or indeed if it would be returned; VAT is not intended to boost cylinder deposit in this way. Anyway I returned the cylinder and obtained a full refund; I then collected a cylinder from Hobbyweld in Dewsbury it not having VAT added to the deposit.

How to account for VAT on deposits – Sound Accounting Services

Rambling on as usual but I'd like to wish you the very best of luck Mike for the future.

Wet dark miserable and dreary here so everything's normal.

    Kind regards, Colin.

There's been no breeze to speak of all day and right now the temperature is 54f, it's dry, and the pressure reading is 983hpa.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Rain on and off for most of the day, mostly light and it did brighten up around midday when the temperature reached 19C.
Rain stopped now and its blowing a gale.

After being blown home by a following rainstorm on Saturday, yesterday was wet and windy.

Today looks to be heading the same way, although there are currently large patches of blue sky. If we can have a couple of hours of dry weather, I can get some of the holiday washing done....
Currently 12.5c, with a high of 19c forecast, and just checking, I think the washing might get dry!!

                        Hi,

                        Blackie's been putting down a splash of rain as seen here;

                        upload_2019-9-30_7-56-59.png

If we have a week without rain it's rare.

I live in West Yorkshire but it should be renamed Wet Yorkshire; I've heard of watering cans and hosepipes; what are these used for?

                        Kind regards, Colin.

Heavy rain to arrive around mid afternoon , so they say.
We've had some flooding down here too @Retired . Our lane floods easily down in the dip and we've had flooded roads in town too.

It must be very worrying @Retired when there's a lot of floods where you live.

The brook where i walk the boys floods but they've been trying to combat it.

                                Hi,

It's strange isn't it Upsy how the rainfall varies here in the UK; it's only a small country but the weather is so unpredictable; it can be a gorgeous day the other side of Huddersfield but pouring with rain here; we often see the rain heading our way across the valley.

Fortunately Logan we aren't troubled with flooding where we live on the valley side and the bottom of the valley is usually flood free but the other side of the hill towards Mirfield is prone to lots of flooding this being where the pictures I posted were taken; it's all hills and valleys around us. I feel very sorry for flood victims though and in the flood areas to be flooded then just recovering to be flooded again must be a nightmare.

I've had a look at today's weather forecast and heavy rain is forecast for later today so the forecast for today will be correct.

The scarf you're knitting must be a magic one Jenny; it doesn't get any longer. :) I used to work nights knitting but on industrial knitting machines knitting Jersey and Crimplene etc.

                                Kind regards, Colin.
