              DISCLAIMER - this may or may not be true ;)

              I have read twice now that the Labour Party are £650k in the red, and are worried that independent investigation into antisemitism in the party will bankrupt them; they are equally worried that they just don't have the cash to fight an election. It does not surprise me, as I am one of a few people that I know of who have ditched their union subs after a lot of years, and that alone has to be hurting their bank balance.

                Interesting that a local Labour MP has decided not to put himself forward for re-election - citing wanting to spend more time with his family as the reason. The real reason is that he is in a constituency where 70% of the voters wanted to leave the EU - he has constantly voted against Brexit - and from the comments on his twitter page - he has lost all support. Better to jump rather than be pushed I suppose. He had a 'rock solid' Labour seat - but not anymore.

                Same as Bercow.

                I've just spent 50 quid on a nice selection of Rudbeckia and Echinacea - am I totally insane?

                    I did the same FC a good 20 or so years ago..Unions '(imho) are just a racket these days..After the company I worked for was privatised the unions were there all guns blazing..when every one confronted them we were told .."Take what they are offering"..which was a 50% cut in wages ,holidays and no sick pay.That did it for me..That's your Unions for you.

                        I used to be a shop steward, maybe 20 years ago. At one point the company wanted all workers to sign a new contract. I won’t go into the detail, but suffice to say it wasn’t for the benefit of the workforce. We had a mass meeting where it was proposed we wouldn’t sign. All the hands went up in agreement with this stance, unanimous. Straight after the meeting they all signed the new contract. ‘That’s the workforce for you’.

                          I've never been into unions, in fact I was put off them during the builders strike in the early 70s.
                          It kind of kicked the unions out of the construction industry all round.

                          But I do see a purpose for unions, but they dont stick to what they were created to do, they, instead of just looking after their members, want to meddle in politics.
                          Which kind of gives unions a bad name.

                            Aye, I've seen both sides of the coin too @Freddy - I recall a stalemate on a pay deal a number of years ago where the union had agreed a 5% rise, but the workforce decided to vote it down as they wanted more and a two year deal. By the time all was said and done, they ended up with 3.5% for that year as it was getting close to starting negotiations for the following year.
