I've sent him back to you Colin. He was very kind and gave us a much-needed watering. We are about 18c now going to 22c, sunny with occasional cloud. Strangely enough there were rice fields here about 30 minutes west of us in Silves and big rice paddies on the west coast south of Lisbon on the Sado River in Alcacar do Sol. Who would have thought?

Portugal’s Arroz Carolino: The Native Rice of Portuguese Gastronomy

We stayed in the Pousada/Castle in Alcacar do Sol and this is the view across the river to the castle ...

... and the view from our suite to some of the rice paddies ...

And so ends the Rice history of Portugal.

Dry and a cold wind (compared to yesterday) with a high of 54F. It was quite nice working in the garden but not so good when out shopping.

                Hi,

Many thanks Victoria for your interesting and informative reply regarding paddy fields. Please don't feel the need to return Blackie to me in fact I'd be pleased if you'd hold onto him then you could have your own paddy fields; I'm sure Blackie would love to help. Blackie tries so hard here to create paddy fields for us but unfortunately fails because the water quickly heads to the valley bottom; it never puts him off though he's real trier.

                upload_2019-10-21_8-33-29.png

Today's forecast seen above; it should read black hole and perishing breeze; I'm at the keyboard with the desk lamp switched on otherwise I'd need a keyboard in braille.

I hit the ground running this morning; I was at Morrisons supermarket just after 7 o'clock and we're about to set off to visit a friend in Leeds; what I really wanted to do was visit my workshop but I can dream on.

Yesterday was planned as a very rare full day in the workshop which I managed until 10:30 when the phone rang; the full day then turned into three hours only in the morning; in the afternoon we were at a birthday party next door; it was Max's 7th birthday and he had a lovely cake with 7 candles on it; Max is such a friendly cat to invite us. No workshop today either and probably no workshop tomorrow in fact I don't know why I retired.

                Kind regards, Colin.

                  Raining today :rain:
I'm so glad I had my bonfire yesterday when the weather was fine and still. All the hedge cuttings had been kept dry under a tarp for a month so they burnt well. We have put our old bench down the bottom of our garden where we have our fires so we can fire watch in comfort

Still overcast but no rain. Tomorrow is supposed to be dry and sunny but I've now mowed all the lawns. No rain forecast here for the next two weeks - so that will probably put the mockers on it!!!
