Well, my MP (Conserative) has just committed "Political Suicide" as she has just announced that she is joining the Lib Dems. There is no real Lib Dem influence in West Cheshire and a 70% Conservative and 30% Labour representation. She must know that she will not be voted back again, but again she won't be going straight to the Job Center as she and her family are Millionaires. Perhaps we'll get a Conservative Candidate that comes from the reality of being a person of a ordinary income.:heehee::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

        Sandbach?
To my mind there is no way a conservative can join the lib dems as they have completely different values; I expect she was never that tory in the first place ?

          Yep, that's the Lady.

Well, she is an avid Remainer despite this area voting OUT by 85%

Could be viewed as having the courage of your convictions? There are plenty of MPs who would sell their own grandmothers/children/pets for a safe seat and a bit of 'power'.

Yes, but she joined the conservative party due to those beliefs and those beliefs are not the same as the liberal democratic ones. They are incompatible frankly so why join the tories if you're not one?

Perhaps she was in agreement with Tory principles before the referendum, but feels even more strongly about remaining in Europe now? Don't you think that the traditional 'values' of the various parties have become a bit blurred, ever since 'New Labour'?

Not really. I think their traditional values or core values remain the same but perhaps repackaged and prettified for social media. If there's that much blurring then why bother with multiple parties afterall? Just my opinion but I don't see a committed conservative becoming a liberal

I don't believe it - we're still in the EU.

They've already done that, noisette, now they have to find something else to stay in their seats!!:heehee: A lot of MP's are either leaving Politics, but won't starve when they do, or choosing to join the Lib Dems knowing full well that Conservative/Labour voters who voted them in will vote for a new Conservative/Labour candidate and not them......

Well the Brexit issue has created a colossal division of loyalties, which seems to be resulting in MPs of all persuasions aligning themselves with former opponents and voters changing the habits of a lifetime in order to achieve the outcome they want. So this election will surely be fought on that one issue. Leavers /Conservative or Brexit Party, Remainers / LibDem or, at a pinch, Labour. If so many are disillusioned or repulsed by Corbyn, but want to remain in the EU, they'll vote LibDem. Or SNP, of course . But then, we've seen what happens when swingeing predictions are made, so I'll shut up now and wait and see :roflol:

But they will gain votes from Remainers (or ditherers) who perceive the LibDems to be the best chance of stopping Brexit in it's tracks. That's what I mean about people probably changing the habits of a lifetime in order to express their current feelings about leaving the EU, or staying in. Does anybody really know which way a second referendum would go now? I certainly wouldn't claim to, and I suspect anyone who does is indulging in wishful thinking, either way.

Jo Swinson voted for raising England’s undergraduate tuition fee cap to £9,000 per year, so why will young people vote for her after she betrayed them after the the Lib Dems promised to oppose any increase in tuition fees?

Voting record - Jo Swinson MP, East Dunbartonshire - TheyWorkForYou

Have a good look at her voting record. Nasty bit of work just like Nick Clegg.

Unfortunately, I find, people have very short memories when it comes to politics, lets face it some are even saying BJ lied when he said we would be leaving on the 31st, he did everything he could to make that happen but lets not forget it was Parliament that put the mockers on it, not the government.

People think short term, mostly, and promise them the world and they will vote for you, sad but true.
