Not feeling too well/fed up today. Got to the Hospital at 1pm for a Cataract op, came out after 5pm and I didn't have the Cataract done..........The reason was my BP & Heart Rate were too high, there was a risk of a Stroke. The Hospital staff were so good and kept checking to see if I was fit to go ahead. Have a letter to see my GP to sort things out.

On dear sorry to hear this @john558 better to be safe than sorry.
I tend to have a similar thing whenever I have a medical app.
3 yrs ago my heart rate when racing at top speed in the recovery room after an op. They had great trouble bringing it down to the normal rate....very scary.
My BP does the same thing too whenever I have a hospital app. I don't suffer with high blood pressure normally but it's now guaranteed to go sky high when I have a medical app! My last lot of surgery was 2yrs ago and they asked me to go in the day before so that they could monitor my BP, by the end of the day they still couldn't decide if I was able to have the operation the next day, after a lot of discussion it was agreed for it to go ahead...again scary
Now every so often I'm called in to have my BP checked everyday for a wk, but it's always fine.
I'm not consciously scared of having medical procedures carried out, so can't understand why my BP suddenly goes through the roof!
Oddly enough my sister had the same thing happened to her before having her recent surgery too. She too had to get checked out but all was well thankfully.

Get yourself booked in as soon as possible to have a check up and fingers crossed you'll soon be deemed fit for your surgery.

            And me!

I proved it to my doctor, who said he didn't believe I had it. I did the one week test at home using my blood pressure monitor and took the results to him. He tested me at the surgery and it was much higher, so he said that my machine can't be calibrated properly. I then took it out of the carrier bag I had with me and we took the test with my machine - and it was the same as his result.

This was after I had spent a horrendous 7 hours at A&E (actually the assessment unit attached to it) because he sent me down there as an emergency with my BP above 200. They were very thorough, took my blood pressure every hour, blood tests every half hour :yikes: (I have a needle phobia), x-rays, eye test, urine test and a number of others. At the end of seven hours the cardiologist came to me and said he can't find anything wrong at all and I could go home. They had made an appointment the next morning for me to see the specialist about a scan.

He was brilliant. After I had some info taken by his intern he then started asking me loads of questions whilst taking my blood pressure and doing some other small tests. He said he could read the previous night's reports, which he said he had glanced at, but preferred to do his own tests and questions. He said he prefers to observe the patients himself. His conclusion was 'white coat syndrome' and that I didn't need a scan but he would do it if I wanted - which I didn't. He then said if I change my mind or felt at all unwell at any time I should come in immediately and he gave me a hand written note to that effect for me to hand to the reception staff when I came in. :blue thumb:

I now only take my BP twice a month. :)

Yesterday I had two meetings for two clubs that I run. We decided to do our bit (just a little, but it all helps) for the environment. We provide tea and coffee for the members (about 160 per week) and have used plastic cups, in cup holders, for as long as I can remember. So that's about 8,000 a year :hate-shocked:.

From the new year we shall no longer provide the cups. Everyone shall be asked to bring their own cups but we shall keep a small stock of recyclable paper cups which they will have to purchase at 50p each, which will go to the charity we support. Hopefully the high charge for the cups will encourage them to bring their own.

I shall try and get some of the other clubs in the area to do the same.

Strange though isn't as it's normally anxiety that causes that and I am never wound up about Drs or hospitals, they have even remarked on how chilled I am!! So..:noidea:

Sorry to hear that @john558 and hope that it gets sorted fast.

Hubby has moderately high blood pressure. When he went to the doctors it got worse and had one of those blood pressure monitors on him for a week, that was higher than normal. The doctor suggested to get a home monitor and do it himself, that's better for him.

Very many thanks to everyone who posted re my NON Cataract Op. I have two BP monitors at home, when you tell the GP he laughs. My BP is around 125-130/70 in the mornings and does go up during the day.
I took the letter from the Hospital requesting my GP investigate my high Heart Rate/high BP to the surgery, told no appointments and to phone at 8am in the morning!
I'm going to try and forget about this problem for a few days.
Thank again folks, you are all so kind.

You're likely to hang on for an hour and then be told there are none left. Mrs Shiney presents herself at the surgery at 8 a.m. and asks for an appointment.

                        Wish you better :grphg:

I find that many of the shots from several programs tend to reappear later in a new series. To furth feed my interest in natural history. I like to obtain the DVD's etc for future reference.
I have some friends who can't stand Attenborough, due to his references to the theory of evolution. I also don't go along with that theory, but, I always reply. David is not always stating his own words etc. Quite often he is invited to narrate to films etc. Another point I make so often is. Were it not for him and others like him, and especially to the c amera crews, who so often risk life and limb to get the best shots. Without them. How much would we know about the natural world around us. I think David is about 93 now and still going strong.

John. So so sorry to hear that. Yes the white coat syndone can step in. Reading members comments on medical treatments etc. I have to say. Different areas seem to have their own methods.
I have an appointment at Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup in February 2020 for a glaucoma check-up. There are two waiting areas, one being for patients attending for catteract ops. Here they use laser surgery. I can sit and watch others go in and come out 10-20 mins later wearing dark glasses. Job done.
John my friend. May I wish you all the very best for your next appointment. Take care my friend.
