            I would have responded right away but I believe this generous offer is only for those drawing 220. Over here we run on half those volts. I do have two Inkbird thermostatic controllers and have found them superior. Just sad I can't participate in this trial.

            I look forward to seeing how people make out as I'd probably be interested in purchasing this product, compatible for our electric.

              I have to admit. Using heat mats or whatever tends to confuse me. OK. A plastic seed tray with transparent cover and inbuilt heating element is perhaps good for the gardener with no GH and is only intending to sow and raise a handful of plants.

              For the individual who has neither GH or perhaps a garden, but is keen on growing a few window-sill plants. Ones general household temperatures will surfice.

              IMO is that bottom heat, and that is what heat mats, soil warming cables etc apply to, is simply a means of getting a head start on germination. Truly, let's be honest. In the commercial world, getting in first can amount to financial benefits. For you and me. Be honest. Do we/I really need my packet of seeds to germinate a couple of weeks, at the most before Charlie Browns?

              Heating costs, even a few heated seed trays can make a difference.

                IMHO silly boy, @Mike Allen ! Being one of those with a short growing season, I need every advantage I can get. I have a garden, I have greenhouses but those too are useless in our climate in the dead of winter. I heated one greenhouse for 4 weeks a few years ago and using cheaper natural gas not electric, in a mild February and it cost me just over £100 for those few days. Never again. Could not afford it. So I start seeds inside in the cellar and since it would be reckless to heat that area much above 50f, I need every advantage I can get! Heat mats offer a helping hand :)

                    Having a heated propagator makes a fantastic difference to being able to organise our growing and planting. Without it we could never produce all the plants that we need for our garden - or those that we sell for charity. It extends the time that we can work to produce what we need for the garden. It has the added effect of helping conserve some of our less hardy plants that we keep in and around the propagator during winter.

                    On top of that, as @CanadianLori says, it makes a big difference to the lives of the cats that adopt us. They pay us back with companionship and vermin control.

                    These are five of the cats that benefit from the added warmth and none of them ever disturb the seedlings that are growing. They step very carefully. None of them are owned by us nor come into the house.
