      @CarolineL I was only newish to gardening then and so I just got a lorry load of ordinary topsoil (not the greatest quality) and piled it up in a heap.

      I then glazed the overhead pergola to stop rain from falling on the area.

            This big, bad baby is going in the Arid Bed where I took out some Yucca gloriosas that had got too big. It's an Echinocactus grusonii that is so heavy that two of us struggle to lift it. One person can't lift it and I can normally lift anything. :( :( Also known as the Golden Barrel Cactus or the name, I like, "Mother-in-Laws Cushion". :) :) I know I'm pushing it a bit as it will only take -5° or -6°C but hopefully where it will be situated will be bone dry and that should help.

              I admire your courage @kindredspirit - if I had such a large (presumably old) plant, I'd be afraid to risk it.
