I did my usual amble through the garden this morning, refilled a couple of Bird Feeders and then headed for the Green House.

The benches are looking a bit crowded with Sarracenias, Dionea, Drosera, Alliums, Perennial Poppies, R. Goldsturm, Solomon's Seal, Hellebores, and one or two other things

I've got 6 more Sarracenia and some Pinguicula arriving mid next week so I've got the pots, Sphagnum Moss, Moss Peat, and Perlite ready to pot them on.

I also did a little tidy up of the Sarracenia snipping out the Pitchers that were turning brown so they look a little better.

After that I mixed up a bucket of Compost, potting grit, and sand and then I potted on 3 Patty's Plum Perennial Poppies to give them room and time to grow on for planting in the borders in mid Spring.

We've had none this year although I can see it on the hills in the distance. I wont be disappointed if we have none all year

Dig out one compost heap, turn the other, move grape vine (young) and check the greenhouse when it warms up a little.

A little amble around to check signs of spring... it's nearly here! :hapfeet:

Everything is growing like mad, and my fingers itch to plant anything that's too slow to escape. Just a bit of ginger today... and an onion on Friday.

                onion.jpeg

Alarmingly, I have discovered that Chia seeds stolen from The Teenager (exposing her to dire risk of malnutrition, or at least reducing the amount of frog spawn-like things in the fridge) are in fact very fertile and germinate in less than a week. Apparently they grow 6 foot tall. Probably it would have been a good idea googling it before chucking a spoonful of seeds into a spare pot :yikes:

Chives are sprouting, and likewise, the Swedes

Houseplants are waking up as well, in a couple of weeks I'll start taking cuttings for friends. Good thing that houseplants are "trendy" at the moment. I think I need a bigger house.

Good afternoon @ARMANDII I think the some of the younger generation would say that's alright, what does it matter, then I would have to explain about the rain not running off of it properly and its the odd one out of 30 fence panels that looks different;)

Not much spare time today plus frosty this morning. I managed around half hour or so. Added more gravel to one of the baths and planted a Thyme and two Oreganos in it. I uprooted these from another bath last Autumn and slung them in the long grass thinking they would die as not doing well. They still look slightly alive so I thought I'd give them another chance :heehee::whistle:. Planted the Geranium that was in the bath into one of the sinks. Stuck a few Daffs in there too. Had a peer into the pond.

I had intended to make more coasters and hearts this evening but the Wrens decided to move their roosting position along a bit to just outside the utility window. Didn't want to risk disturbing them by putting lights on. I usually make coasters in the morning too around 6.00 am. Still dark and they will be still sleeping so I guess I will have to wait for daylight.

Checked on the greenhouse and fed the birds. Have been sat for a few hours just watching the birds on the front bird feeders. Love watching them.

Today’s birds have been, chaffinches, robins, blue tits, great tits, collared doves, wood pigeon, house sparrow and common sparrows and magpie. No blackbirds today and no woodpecker.

going to make some more suet coconuts now to attract the woodpecker back.

tomorrow i will make myself plant the last of the bulbs (hopefully its not too late!!)

It was cold this morning, so limited myself to a brisk dog-walk in the forest, and a little shopping (sepia fine-nib pens, peanuts for the birds, but failed to get Mill Hill seed beads for my cross-stitch ). Once it had warmed up a little, I got out and did a little gardening...

I cleared the side of the drive, and deadheaded a couple of patio roses to tidy them up a little. I cleared the weeds around our two small cherry trees, and took the full trug down to the compost bays. On my way back up to do some more weeding near the house, I noticed that my corkscrew hazel was almost totally smothered by brambles.... So, I girded my loins, and waded into the nettle-stems, brambles and ivy on the steep bank. An hour later, and the little hazel is free!! The grass thatch from last year’s grass filled a couple more trugs. The stems from the nettles, nettle runners, and various bramble stems are to be dealt with another day. I’d earned a cuppa!!

Now I’m sitting, wondering which window to look out on, as I watch all the birds on the newly-refilled feeders. I can so relate to your comment @Snorky85. I may be here until the light fades!! So far we have had song thrushes, robins, dunnocks, chaffinches, blackbirds, blue tits, great tits, long-tailed tits, a wren, a nuthatch, collared doves, magpies, a very vocal jay, and a pair of spotted woodpeckers.... There may have been others, lost in all the fluttering!
