Just had an interesting letter from a Company called NewDay Fraud Operations saying that somebody was trying to set up a credit account in my name with a company call AO and would I confirm or deny doing so by phoning them back on the number supplied.
Thinking there was a scam going on I went online to check them out and found that they were, in fact, legitimate. So I rang them, using the number on line and not the number in the letter. It was a London number and, after explaining the reason I was calling, they transferred me to their Operations Office in Leeds. They asked me only for my name and reference number on the letter and asking me if I had asked for a credit account to be with the company AO. When I told them No!!, they then placed a warning mark on my credit account, regarding the fraud attempt and said they would inform the CIFAS which is the Fraud Prevent Service. Since very little of my personal information gets out online, incoming mail regarding financial matters gets shredded after reading, my mail box is secure, and I don't have a Credit Card and haven't had for years, I'm wondering if any personal details, (bare bones that it is) has come from a site that I did transactions with. Something to think about.

Glad that they sorted it out @ARMANDII it's very worrying when things happen like that. They take frauds very seriously.

We've had a few things happen, the first and second things were credit cards, we had to have new numbers. The third was somebody ordered a tv and hubby was called from Lloyds bank checking if we bought one, that was sorted. Hubby's mobile phone contract is with what used to be called Orange, somebody from there said that we ordered a phone but we didn't, he was told that it was somebody in the company trying to get a phone for themselves.

        Hi,

Many thanks shiney; yes such stores are wonderful for me but unfortunately they are increasingly rare; DIY stores now have a few small items in plastic bags on pegs costing a small fortune; it's highly HRH will be buying a hammer and nails and he'd need more than four candles.

Anything at all to do with money needs taking seriously ARMANDII; you did the right thing to check the letter out before doing anything else; had it not been a letter but an email I'd have just added it straight to my blacklist.

A couple of years ago we suffered two unauthorized withdrawals on the same day from our account amounting to almost £1,000; I've very keen and check our online accounts at least once each day so I quickly reported the problem whilst the withdrawals were still "Pending". It caused me lots of hassle with the bank going through many security checks and I hope the criminals were traced. We didn't lose any money.

        Kind regards, Colin.

We buy a lot of our supplies for a hobby business from a company called …… 4candles

@ARMANDII We had a similar thing happen with our business account some time ago where I had a call from the bank asking if we'd tried to buy something from Dunelm. As we shop there sometimes I checked with my wife and no, she hadn't shopped there recently. Card cancelled and a new one issued. I think my details were captured as part of the hack into Tesco as I had filled up with that card recently.

@Retired that was too funny! I hadn't seen much of the two Ronnies as I believe they only reran part of the series over here. Thanks for the laugh!

I've just finished my errands for this end of town. Later I pick up some other supplies on my way to the pub for a quick one and to drop off some seeds for a friend there.

Also I'm making another attempt to get my bell bottom pants and pattern to the correct dimensions. For heavens sake, the bell done up according to the pattern was huge. I just wanted a regular bell, not Big Ben!

Haven't worn bell bottoms since ... was it the late 70s. I think they are coming back in fashion again (as all things do) but here it is skinny jeans/jeggings/leggings which I prefer.

Apart from gardening, we met a friend for a light lunch and sat outside in the sunshine (the rain had passed).

@CanadianLori you'll be telling us next that you've never watched the chuckle brothers.

disclaimer: if you haven't, its not worth the effort of googling

No, I haven't heard of the Chuckle Brothers @andrews and thanks for saving the time with not looking them up.

I set the bells aside and am now gluing more pdf patterns together. I don't remember the glue tasting this bad back in kindergarten!

When I first went overseas in the RAF they issued me with Khaki Shorts so big that they went almost to my ankles and it felt like I could walk 3' before they followed me. In the end I did what the rest of the Squadron had done and got a local Tailor, when abroad, to make me a proper fitting, somewhat shorter,Kit.
However, I've noticed those selfsame large shorts have become fashionable over the last few years with guys wearing them walking along the Street quite happily!! My apologies to those who wear them but they, to me, look like there is no style and look Cloddish.....but that's fashion for you!!

And fellows or women with skinny legs do look like helium balloons on sticks... fitted looks so much better.

I haven't worn shorts in public in years. I stopped that when I turned 60. I don't have purply veins or all that, I just feel I'm too old :old:

There's lots of worse abominations out there masquerading as fashion :rolleyespink:

@ARMANDII - I have a current finance agreement with New Day for an AO purchase, and can happily say that both companies are very good to deal with. They seem to take customer security very seriously indeed, so I am reasonably confident they will have done the right things for you.

We have had the day from hell today..... well, it actually started yesterday, or maybe even before. For a few weeks our little dog hasn't been quite 'right' - nothing you could really put your finger on apart from a bit of a cough which seemed to get better as time went on. Yesterday, I was clearing out some stuff in the bedroom (getting ready for our new bed to be delivered on Saturday) and he followed me around all day getting more and more listless and a bit breathless. Last night, we were up most of the night with him - he couldn't lie down comfortably, so was sitting but falling asleep and then falling over, only to get back up again. Through the night, his wee belly swelled up and his back feet got puffy.

First thing this morning, I was on the phone to the vet and we whipped him in just after 9am, and had to leave him there for them to work on. Transpires his heart in failing, and we are now embarking on a road of treatment. After a day of crying our eyes out, we picked him up around 6 this evening and we are now trying to settle him for the night (whilst having towels all over the place because he is peeing at will!). Hopefully we will get some shut eye tonight, as we are on our kneecaps.

Hang in there, FC. It's so very hard when pets get ill and you suddenly realise just close you are to your pet and you feel so helpless that you can't wave a wand and make it better.
