I'm a newbie both to this forum and to gardening. I've joined to get some help with my garden which is mostly lawn but has a boarder of about 70 mature trees. Mostly poplars and firs.

Hi "H", welcome to Gardeners Corner:love30::thumbsup: Can you give the GC Gang, of which you are now a member, some details of your garden such as how big is it, what direction does it face, what kind of soil does it have, is it fast or slow draining, some pics of it would help. Also what do you, personally, want to do with the garden??:coffee:

The house is on about an acre. The main lawn is out the front, there's a smaller area of lawn to the side and back. The main lawn is north facing. The poplars and the firs that we'd like to get rid of are on the west and north (road facing) boundary of the garden.

It's dark now so I can't take any pics but I'll see if I have any from previous.

Ideally I'd love some better looking trees. Chestnut and Oak would be amazing, some flowering trees etc, in the areas that the poplar and fir are now.

That's a view of the trees along the north boundary. There are 3 rows. One of poplar, one fir, one poplar.

The trees on the west side are just a single row of poplars. They're very tall.

Welcome to Gardeners Corner Heffalump. :) The trees are cutting out a lot of sunlight. I had a similar problem in my north-west facing garden but had three removed and it made such a big difference to the amount of light, not only in the garden but my bungalow as well.
