    Hi,

    We had a new Intergas HRE Combi boiler installed January 2016 and it's now due another service. Our previous boiler was an Ideal Isar and it became so bad we ended up paying British Gas just over £300 per year to cover for repairs; the crunch finally came when it took BG three consecutive days in order to sort out the final repair.

    I was on a big DIY forum so posted for advice and Intergas were very highly recommended so we've been with Intergas since and to date absolutely no problems;

    HRE - The Combi Boiler That Combines Everything - Intergas Heating

    I've just arranged for the latest service by an approved Intergas engineer and it's only costing £45. The boiler came with a 7 year warranty as long as its serviced each year.

    It's worth noting these boilers have less parts that are known to go wrong so reliability should be greatly improved; the boiler is located in my workshop and it's so quiet I don't notice it.

    Worth a look?

    Kind regards, Colin.

    I've had my gas boiler since 2001 and, touch wood not a problem, the modern ones are just full of parts that can, and will go wrong.:smile:

      Ideal, hate them, my companions popped and flooded her property while she was on holiday. This particular company that constructed the properties uses Ideal and all the properties there now have had them all changed.
      We’ve just looked at a new build in Perranporth and that’s got Ideal and so it tells us all we need to know so we are still looking.
      To replace her boiler came to a nice 8k price and I organised a Worcester 550CDI to be installed as she has great water flow and 3 bathrooms in her property. Really nice bit of kit, massive combi, makes mine look small.

      I had a Baxi back boiler, lasted over 40 years and near the end it was costing a a fair bit to run. 4K to change mine but I saved that in a couple of years as my winter quarterly bills were hitting between £700 and £900!

        Well I'll be needing a new heating system with my building works so I'll be checking these out along with Viessmann . Always rated Worcester or Vaillant boilers before.

          Hi,

          Couldn't agree more Liz the pot. Our Ideal Isar was fine until out of warranty then the repair bills started to come in.

          All boilers eventually require replacing; parts no longer available; grossly inefficient etc. I think our Ideal was only 7 years old and it was garbage; British Gas engineers didn't like working on it.

          It's still early days regarding our Intergas boiler but now at four years old it hasn't missed a beat. Replacing the Ideal with the Intergas was a straightforward job with perfect access but the engineer was here a full day leaving at 10pm with 3" deep snow on his van; he did a wonderful job; it was just a boiler replacement which kept the price way down; I think it only cost us £1,600 for the HRE boiler installation because our radiators didn't need flushing. Intergas boilers really need installing by Intergas recommended installers; the water has to be clean and water pressure is important.

          For what we were paying British Gas for just boiler cover we can have a brand new Intergas boiler about every five years? We'll never have another Ideal boiler. The reason I added this thread was to inform of Intergas which neither Bron or I had ever heard of. I watched the video and it made a lot of sense to have a boiler not containing a number of parts which are major causes of breakdown. It pays to shop around and if anyone likes Ideal boilers fair enough it's their choice and their money.

          With recommendation from forum members and watching this video we chose Intergas;

          So far so good; annual service next Wednesday at £45.

          Kind regards, Colin.

          We needed a big boiler when we replaced the old one that we in the house.

          Installed a Keston condensing boiler but this failed a few times - once on Boxing day and once on New Years Day. Called the company who had previously repaired the boiler (they didn't install it) and they came out on boxing day and talked me through a work around on NYD. That service is worth a lot.

          The Keston was not reliable so we replaced it with an intergas condensing boiler which has been faultless. Gave the job to the company who give us the great service.

          The condensing boiler is along the same ethos as the combi - as few components as possible so less to go wrong. Highly recommended

            We had a new boiler installed in October when the Glow Worm boiler that we had finally reached the point where it was beyond economical repair. I was quite surprised when our landlord had a Worcester Bosch installed, but also quietly pleased. I have to say it is a hell of a lot better than the Glow Worm ever was, much quieter and gets the radiators steaming hot - and our gas bills seem to have dropped!

            Now, here is a wee giggle for you that is slightly related to this......

            Yesterday, we had a new bed delivered - an ottoman base that came in two parts (two halves of the bed, lengthwise), that had to be bolted together, the lids aligned and the gas struts fitted. Our bedroom isn't all that big, so whilst Mrs C was holding the two sides together, I was on my knees putting one of the bolts in..... as I did so, I suddenly had this searing pain and shot upright at a hell of a rate to the point Mrs C wondered who had stabbed me. I had backed up a couple of inches and burned my arse on the radiator! :yikes: :heehee: :nonofinger:

                Both those were the top rated makes by Which?. We had a new Vaillant last January and it works superbly. Our service this year cost £50 by our regular independent fitter.

                The last boiler lasted 12 years.

                The one previous to that was installed in 1973 and was only removed because we were revamping the utility room and moving the hot water cylinder and they weren't able to do any physical moving of it. So we had it for 33 years and it never broke down. They don't make them like they used to! :old:

                  They are perfect for heating rooms, but bare builders crack, most definitely too hot :biggrin:
