Well, formally, yes, but we are now in at least a year long set of trade negotiations with the EU maintaining the same arrogant attitude and superior attitude that we have had to endure during the last 4 years. The Irish Prime Minister's assessment of trade negotiations is "Well, there's only one of you, and there's 27 of us......who do you think has the upper hand?" is exactly what is running through the mind of the real 5 Leaders minds...........so "no deal" is still lying on the table.:dunno::wallbanging:

We got what we wanted, we have the right to celebrate, but being childish is no way to start negotiations, they need to think we are a combined force not a bunch of school kids.

Main reason we have been treated with contempt up to now is they never actually thought we were really leaving, bearing in mind the stupid infighting that has been going on, on this side of the channel.

They need to see a serious face from this side of the channel that shows determination to make this work.
Not a bunch of numpties, like something out of the muppet show.

I agree with you totally, pete. But again we seem to easily forget that we have been treated in the four years of "trade negotiations" with arrogance, contempt and a "we've got all the cards" attitude that infuriated you, me and other members of GC. They've always regarded us as "awkward" because we kept our own independent currency thereby giving us some economic freedom, and without that we would not have been able to leave the EU........examples being Italy and Greece. One of the elements of their attitude was BREXIT was to be extremely hard line because they had to show other members contemplating leaving just how painful, tortuous, and long it would be.
Our own contribution in helping the EU maintain that superiour position was, as you say, our own, self inflicted, political stagnation caused by the self interests of those who believed that their own economic interest were in danger, and the appearance of a extreme Labour Party opposition, the SNP wanting independence and to remain in the EU, and the minor Parties declaring themselves completely anti Brexit. I don't think it was a case of they didn't really think we were leaving but more of case that they feared that we would and the possible consequences on the EU.

To be honest, I think we have that determination now. Throughout this thread when Boris appeared as a rising figure we all :lunapic 130165696578242 5: at him and called him a Buffoon, etc, etc. Whatever we still think of him, he kept going saying he wanted BREXIT. Campaign Fear used every dirty trick, intruding into his private life and that of his partner, accused him of financial dodgy dealings while Mayor of London, and we watched and even added our doubts about him because of the Media etc constant negative attitude to him. So, let's be honest, we didn't give him any support at the beginning and, in fact, didn't believe he had any chance of succeeding, and yet despite all that he battled through, got a working Government majority of 80, got BREXIT through...........so who were the Numpties? I ask that question while avoiding looking in the mirror.
So I say again....to Hell with Dignity, to Hell with Seriousness......and I like the Muppet Show:dunno::heehee:

We could easily get the PIGS to cross over to us
(Portugal Italy Ireland Greece and Spain) and form our own group

Which is why the EU took the hard line and viewed us as Pig muck to show any other member wishing to leave what they would get should they try. Italy and Greece were basically told that if they wanted to leave the EU they would have to pay back the EU Euro billions that the EU has saddled them with, thereby leaving those countries in financial ruin.:dunno:

Biggest thing the UK have in the trade negotiations is that Boris is not afraid of a no deal scenario. The eu are terrified of it but will still act like idiots at the table. Seems incredible to me especially as they've seen direct results if Boris's approach

Lets face it... it was a dead cert that Farage wasn't going to graciously walk away quietly,he didn't need to speak just that look on his face spoke volumes:biggrin:
Nigel Farage isn't one of my favorite people but so many are pussy footing around for fear of upsetting the 'remainers'..he said it how it was and didn't give a flying fig what anyone thought.

They've certainly been in deep financial trouble for over a decade, Sheal, with their countries budget being basically run by the EU. In the last couple of years the Nationalists, who are anti EU, have become more popular and now they have been trying to rebel against the EU by trying to take back control of their national budget. So the EU is threatening to withhold EU funds to that keep the countries systems running. But I have a feeling that the EU is losing it's grip on the Meditrerranean countries because of the Nationalism that is spreading and increasing in Europe as a whole.

Thanks Armandii. :) With our departure from the EU and considering what you have said above, the ball has been set rolling. Perhaps it may turn into a wrecking ball regarding the EU's future.

Yup. The EU's approach to migrants is largely to blame I think; they've done very little to, in practice, address the huge burden placed on some of the locations first reached by the migrants and it's really inflamed the locals.
That said, the economies of said countries has been in dire straights for a VERY long time but we won;t mention corruption or in-fighting within certain governments as it's a bit close to home

                        Hi,

Are we actually out of the EU now; I don't bother with politics and don't watch the news having better and more interesting things to do. :)

I'd fully agree with you Jenny but we should never have got ourselves into such a mess in the first place and it's taken years to get out assuming we're finally out?

Next thing to change is stop wasting our money on HS2; telephones and networking have been invented so why the huge expense just because other countries have high speed trains; are we just a lot of sheep?

I can spend time worrying about everything or I can do something interesting; the weather is too poor to get intro the gardens so I'm enjoying workshop sessions and have something to show for it; the world can go mad around me but I'm enjoying learning aluminium TIG welding; here's my practice on a new petrol tank I'm making for a Suffolk Colt mower I fully restored last year.

                        Kind regards, Colin.

Not a pretty weld but the tank won't leak; I'd much rather do this than scream at our telly.
