    Sowed my chillis today - Apache, which was a big hit last year, plus two new ones, Anaheim and Cayennetta.

      I potted up 8 Shineybrids, 7 Ring of Fire, 3 red habanaros, 6 carolina reapers, 7 bhut jolokia-ghost peppers, 4 chocolate douglah/devil's tongue, and hmmm, there were a couple of others but it escapes me at this moment.

      Anyway, I'm well on my way to a hot time this summer :)

        Start as soon as possible. Leggy shouldn't happen with enough warmth and light. :blue thumb:

            Well, I'm still impatient, no sign of life since last Friday but still have 2 over wintered in the kitchen but they are taking up a lot of room.
            No room in the garden for a greenhouse and in Wilkos they have tomato greenhouses, probably room for 2 or 3 plants inside for a tenner.
            Are they worth getting for putting the hotter chillies in to prolong their life. Last year was bad for toms and chillies here so thinking of a bit of protection for them.

            If they have no bottom heat then don't expect them to germinate yet, especially if they're of the very hot varieties. They can take a couple of weeks or so.

            They would give some protection but they will also need to be secured properly. The nickname for that type of plastic greenhouse is 'a blowaway'! £10 seems quite cheap. :blue thumb:

              They are in a heated prop at around 75f mostly, it's the type that heats to around 30f above ambient.
              BUT, a Hot Shakira has stood up with a tiny root showing and several others look to be stirring too. Will get them into a bright position shortly.
              The small blow away is cheap and it will give a bit of protection early on in the spring so worth a try.
              Never been this advanced in February so hoping the weather will improve fairly soon.

                  Better late than never, sown today Anaheim (a milder chilli as recommended by @noisette47 ) and Tabasco which has been very prolific for me in the past.

                    Eight of my 24 have sprouted on kitchen roll but the paper had some fur on them so now sprouters are in compost, the rest on top. Surprising to me that the hottest have sprouted first whereas I've not had much luck with these before so a big thanks to @shiney. £14 for the heated prop was a bargain.
                    Have to find a place with plenty of light now.

                        Sowed mine yesterday. I'm using jiffy pellets again. Not sowing as many as last year - less varieties and less of each variety. Ive sown 12 of each variety.

                        Ive sown one which I believe is jalapeno - harvested the seeds from one of these - green chilli in the middle of the dish.

                        Also sown Anaheim as an alternative to big jim.

                        Put them in the prop with my Ensete and Musa seeds so they are at 28 degrees. Prop is now full as the remaining space is taken up with Ricinus

                          Eh?? Not guilty, m'Lud! :biggrin: Recently, I've only grown a chilli from Bali (name unknown) which is quite big, fleshy and reasonably hot. I did participate in a French seed swap, however, and have quite a selection of different ones to pass on to anyone who'd like to experiment :) The most intriguiging is called 'Vegetarien'. Difficult to germinate, apparently, but it will be interesting to see what makes it more vegetarian than any other.....:scratch:

                              I can’t tell you what has germinated, because hubby has not shown the labels!!
