Maybe we remind our Euro "chums" that we will spending £40 Billion pounds this year defending their sorry backsides this year from those pesky Russians as part of our Nato commitment.

    No trade = No protection.

Let's include Crecy as well, plus compensation for losses inflicted on the French during the Napoleonic Wars, rent for the land occupied in WW1; the Germans are probably owed even more.

Well yes, granted, but that's probably the next thing that needs sorting out with the europeans.
If it carries on like it is the USA will drop out, and where will that leave NATO.
          Up the swaney.

Thing is they will probably take us to court saying we have damaged them.
Then we will end up paying the repair bill.

Anyone got a tube of araldite handy?;)

Not a really viable equation, Wee Tam:dunno: I'm not a real fan of NATO as it's got too many "empire" builders, is slow to make decisions, is unwieldy, and is spending more on "would be" Politicians and Administrative Buildings than it spends on weapons, training, and resources. It's effectiveness is more myth than a hard striking, fast moving organisation and, probably, we'd be spending Roubles as our National currency if the Ruskies were to come before NATO's many medalled, smart expensive uniformed High Command could decide what to have for lunch.
But, having said that, however doubtful I am about the EU's real ability to defend itself, we need to co-operate in Intelligence, some sort of alliance to act together in a military fashion etc. The EU, itself, has threatened, over the last 4 years, to cut Security Intelligence, Space and Scientific Research, etc, sharing and co-operation but knows that we contribute more than they can afford to lose. They will, no doubt, go over the same old threats in the next 10 months but I think they're coming to realise that they are facing a different stronger, Government than they have ridden over so easily in the past.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

The Egyptions actually used that, pete, when Museum staff broke the beard of Tutankhmun's off the mask and was only discovered when experts were looking at it.:hate-shocked::dunno::heehee::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Do we ask the French for repayment of the £16,000 per year (in those days) of the money we gave Louis XVIII to support him in exile in England from 1807 - 14 during the reign of Napoleon?

I remember it well. :old: :heehee:

If all the remaining 27 EU member states each insists on including stupid claims in the trade negotiations, they would drag on for years. Maybe that's their plan, hoping we'll continue with further extensions for year after year, and continuing to oay into their budget?

The staff at Tring Natural History Museum also used it for attaching fake Rhino horns after removing the real ones, but theives still broke in and used sledgehammers to break the fake ones off.

EU member states can claim whatever they like, I doubt they'll get it and then we'll be off in December anyway and we'll take it from there.

Boris has been exceptionally quiet as PM. Far more so than I expected and it's not coming across well to the public... He needs to find his voice again and perhaps not listen so much to that little weasel Cummings

Actually, it's just the EU that's putting more bricks and mud in the trading wall as it appears that the Greek Ambassodor to the EU has said they have not included, for their part, any demand for the return of the Marbles to be included in the EU Trade Talks, but that the subject is a long standing request to the UK. So it appears that the EU is learning to use "fake news" in the Trade Talks.:dunno::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

NATO is there to protect it's members.

This business about the EU setting up it's own army - what's that all about? Sending our boys to war with minimum input from our MP's - that's what it's all about.

Yet another reason why we need to get out.

It's about the tiny member states having zero credible defence abilty for when Russia decides to stomp on them. Having an EU army, in theory, enables better placement of defence strategy. Doubt it will happen or if it does, work.
