This is just the beginning, Loofah, of what the EU will do to pressure the UK into accepting their conditions but, as I said earlier, they are dealing with a different kind of UK Government that is not afraid to stand up to them and would rather leave the Trade Talks under the "Australian Trade Agreement" which is basically a Hard Brexit.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Well, after 4 years of the EU being arrogant, obstinate, telling the UK that it's the EU that "holds all the negotiating cards", the EU negotiators are not able to change their ways.:wallbanging: The one thing that Barnier has let slip is by telling the Media that they are being tough because the UK will be a competitor on their door step. If you think about that, he's basically saying that 27 countries fear the strength and abilities of just one country:heehee::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Good on you Nissan - seems to be the opposite of what Barney has been bleating on about - the future is bright.

"An example of how a worst-case scenario could play out is provided by Nissan. In the event of the EU imposing tariffs on imports from the UK, the Japanese car manufacturer is reported by the Financial Times to have drawn up a plan to close its operations in Spain and France, doubling down on its aim of capturing a larger market share in Britain. So Nissan’s Sunderland plant might outdo its Continental competitors if the EU Commission really insists on a protectionist outcome."

I wouldn't celebrate too soon, clanless as it seems that Nissan are denying, (as they would if such a plan exists:dunno:), the existance of such a plan. Also it's pointed out by the Media that, if such a plan exists, it was made out before Makoto Uchida became Nissan's CEO on 1 Dec 19.

"A Nissan spokesman said on Monday: We deny such a contingency plan exists. We’ve modelled every possible ramification of Brexit and the fact remains that our entire business both in the UK and in Europe is not sustainable in the event of WTO [World Trade Organization] tariffs.

“We want our UK team of more than 7,000 people to have the best possible chance of future success, which is why we continue to urge UK and EU negotiators to work collaboratively towards an orderly balanced Brexit that will continue to encourage mutually beneficial trade"

Car manufacturing is knackered globally - pretty much in its last death throes, at least until some sense returns in terms of developing various methods of fuelling them, and having an understanding of how long it takes to develop those technologies and why it takes time to sell those ideas through to the market to recoup development costs.

Nissan were in a bucket load of trouble before they were dragged into the alliance with Renault and Daimler AG, and I would imagine that even under that colossal umbrella that they are still not really making a bundle. Their Qashqai started out really well, however it became a victim of it's own popularity and quality issues crept in.

General Motors have very recently binned Holden in Australia, and in doing so have essentially binned making right hand drive vehicles all together. None of this has anything to do with Brexit, and has everything to do with the anti-capitalists that are masquerading as environmentalists utterly screwing the market and making it as hard as it possibly could be to purchase a suitable vehicle.

                  What bridge Shiney?

Mind you, in all fairness. The Chinese did build that new hospital fast. Here in the UK, even Boris has been going on about X number of new hospitals, and zilch has happened as yet.

He is not threatening. This is a fact that has been known ever since Camoclown announced his vanity project/legacy/referendum. Why on earth do you think that Rees-Mogg immediately scuttled off to Dublin to set up an EU office for his fund management business. Why do you think that all the major investment banks and financial service providers have spent billions doing the same? Why do you think that they have been shifting billions of their capital reserves across the water? Love bankers or not, the harsh fact is that the financial services sector is the biggest single taxpayer in this country. Where do people think that this shortfall in tax take will come from if BoJo approaches the trade negotiations with the promised attitude? Actual ly, that is not such a big issue as the Withdrawal Agreement Bill allows ministers to introduce new taxes without any parliamentary oversight whatsoever. It also allows them to amend existing laws as deemed necessary without oversight, including in key areas such as employed rights, human rights etc. Welcome to the brave new "democracy"!
Anyway, for the good of harmony this has to be my last post on the subject (plus the fact that I'm off to work!).

ps; this is not a pop at Armandii, just the overall idiocy of what has occurred. Remember, Googles most searched term the day after the referendum was "what is Brexit"!!!!!

and long may it remain so. Beaufort's Dike is an ecological disaster waiting to happen
"It’s estimated that the Beaufort’s Dyke contains over a million tonnes of munitions, dumped there by the War Office and its successor the Ministry of Defence between the end of WW1 and the mid 1970s. As well as conventional weaponry like artillery shells, the Dyke was also used as a dumping ground for incendiary bombs containing phosphorus which ignite on contact with air, as well as chemical weapons, including mustard gas, tear gas, phosgene, and the nerve agents tabun and sarin." Plus some radioactive waste has been dumped there. That's only the start of problems, not all the material was dumped in the designated site, bad weather, human fallibility, mean nobody knows what is where or the state of it.

@NigelJ Beaufort's Dike and SS Richard Montgomery are two of the most frightening things that are just waiting to catch up with us at some point, with the latter being the least scary by a considerable margin.
