I read that a small local shop in Margate tried to charge £12 for a pack of loo roll that was marked £8, the customer walked away.........I believe that a shop doesn't have to charge the marked price, but really:nonofinger:

A big sticking point of the Brexit negotiations was open borders and freedom of movement within the EU.
We were made out to be the bad ones for wanting to restrict that.

What has almost every EU country done in the last day or so.....closed their borders.
Maybe not such a united continent after all.....

I guess there is something to be said for having your own immigration policies......

It’s absolutely ruddy ridiculous in Bury St Edmunds! I was in Waitrose Saturday night the staff were exhausted, still smiling but you could clearly see they’d all had a really hard day...I found myself feeling really sorry for them & had a brief chat with the staff I’m familiar with, one of which said ‘I’m so tired, we are trying so hard & we keep getting shouted at! The stock room is as full as can be, our deliveries are late because all stores need supplies. We had a cage of Christmas printed toilet roll we thought we’d put it out as we had run out of normal toilet roll...as we pushed the cage to the aisle to unload it we had a queue of people who wanted it, it never reached the shelf!’ I’m amazed! Apparently they’ve sold the equivalent to a years supply of toilet roll!
MIL & FIL was in Asda this morning (Christ knows why they keep going to the ruddy supermarket) apparently there was a man in there wearing a gas mask....what is the matter with these people? Has the country gone utterly batty!?
Im trying to laugh but honestly the snatching, stockpiling & greed is enough to make me want to scream! I cannot get paracetamol for love nor money (haven’t actually tried love to be honest!)
        Stay safe everyone xx.

One of Mrs Shiney's elderly patients phoned and asked us to get her some eggs. I had to go into town to get some paving kerbs so volunteered. What a fool I was! I went to both the very large Tesco and Sainsbury's and they didn't have any. Both of them were totally out of chicken and potatoes as well as most of their veg - as well as the usual. So we've given her some of ours.

We shall be seeing someone on Wednesday who has his own chickens and sells at least 50 dozen (free range) a week. So I'll get some for both of us. :blue thumb:

@Beckie76 OMG A GAS MASK!!!! Ha ha that is crazy!!

Hope all the GCers are safe and well. I haven't read this thread from the beginning so apologies if someone is unwell with it.

Well I am narked purely for selfish reasons. No doubt our April trip to Thailand will be cancelled. I am gutted as really needed a total relaxing getaway after the stressful year we've had. We'll get the flights refunded but we will most likely lose the hotel booking as it was non-refundable.

Also it's Mr Snorks 40th birthday on saturday and we'd booked a place in london and a group of 20 to a crazy golf indoor venue (pre-paid it for £500) and they won't allow us to rebook or refund etc. Terrible! Gutted. What a great birthday present. I'm proper narked.

Also couldn't even get a parking space at Tescos so gave up. Grrrr.

Well carrying on from earlier on, it must definitely be a South/North thing. I went into Iceland this morning, bought my usual loaf, eggs, chicken and everything else. Still the only thing missing is soap.

I'm now preparing for a prolonged period of any restrictions up to and including total lockdown by stocking up with all the DIY materials I need for months of work around the home and garden.

If the government restrict all journeys to just those for work/food shopping, going to your plot may become illegal. I've stocked up on compost for growing stuff in tubs at home, plus brought one of my three 3 x 6m polytunnels back home. In some EU countries there's areas with total lockdown and nobody's allowed out.

We have the half yearly allotment association meeting on the 27th. A room full of old geezers - I suspect it's going to be cancelled.

Well its his neighbour, he's a youngster of around 70. She is 94.
He's been dropping off milk etc. for her on the doorstep, he himself has heart problems so has to be careful.
I dont speak to him every day so I assume he will at some stage tell me the outcome, but he did say she was feeling a bit better yesterday

Well, my boss had me into his office first thing this morning and has left the ball firmly in my court as to if/when I decide that I work from home, as I am quite firmly in that 'vulnerable' category. My view at the time was that I wanted to continue to work in the office as long as I could, as I had no desire to run away and hide, however after the government's advice this afternoon I think I am now looking at days rather than weeks before I have to arrive at the conclusion I am safer working at home.

Well, the Government hasn't done that yet, and no one can predict the future, so clanless is free to go to his Allotment and still keep to the advice given.:dunno::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

If I see anymore panic buying on the news I'll probably go mad, don't these idiot realise its them that are causing it along with social media.
I'm sure they do and are revelling in it, you only have to see how excited the reporters get while doing their bit to the camera.

Tonight they were showing a chemist shop, with some empty shelves and someone saying it looked like the place had been ransacked.
                              Why?????
