Supplies are now drifting back into Co-op shops here. :)

Isle of Man - Schools will be closed from tomorrow apart from special needs. The island's now closed to non residents.

:noidea:....it's a case of ' watch this space ' I think Lori. But what you say makes sense, I suppose there would have to be.

This is an entirely new Virus, just understanding it, how it works, etc would have taken years but for today's technology. There isn't a vaccine for every strain of Flu, just those that are the most common.:dunno:

I went to our local (very big) branch of Sainsbury’s this morning to do our weekly shop.
There were plenty of elderly people in the store, going about their business as normal. I was beyond livid.
My kids have had their schooling disrupted. I have had my life disrupted.
All to protect the “vulnerable”. Yet the so many were out and about in public as if all things were normal.
Sorry, but that’s not acceptable. If these people get sick, and the nhs cannot cope, that’s on them, not me.

        What exactly is their position?

The government has said the elderly should self isolate
        What other position is there???

How exactly do they get their shopping when the stores have been empty for over a week, queues at the doors before they open each day and delivery slots booked up in advance? I'd be more inclined to get angry with the pillocks that decided to convene in parks and on beaches over this weekend. If this virus is as bad is as being inferred, and it certainly seems to be so, the people of this country need to get a grip - fast.

@Sirius , how are many of them supposed to get food , shopping, pay Bill's etc.

My mom is in her mid eighties, I am late fifties, with health problems, Are you gonna come and help us ?

Also, have you checked the figures to see how many cases there are in your area ? I can tell you I check every day and we haven't had a single case, when that changes I will tell my mom to stay in and I ( with my problems - thirty four tablets a day and injections every two months) will still have to go out.

IT IS NOT LAW THAT THE ELDERLY STAY IN

It is down to common sense, sadly something that half the population are currently showing that they have none of and I'm afraid I include you in there.

It is requested and I repeat requested that those over 70 self isolate. Did you ask all those people their age while you were there? I suppose you'd have them all dead and buried if you could!

No,Sirius the Government has not said the Elderly should self isolate, what it has said is that those elderly at risk i.e: those with health problems should isolate if they can. But the whole of the Elderly population does not have to self isolate, what they have to do is use common sense, keep their distance from other people, stay indoors for as much as they can. But they can go out shopping for get the food and other items they need.

The real one, Sirius, you have misread/misinterpreted what has been said by the Government and have not even taken into consideration that there are Elderly people out there who are acting with more common sense that those of a younger age. Draconian measures will, I think, be taken in the not too distance future that will affect you and the rest of the UK population so I would advise you to read and understand what is being said.:dunno::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

And if you get sick because you've somehow picked up the virus is that down to you??:doh:
"These people" are probably acting with more common sense than the rest of the younger population and "these people" are the same as you......Human.
We can see that a great number of people are now swamping the Parks, NT estates, etc, taking no notice of the safe distance to keep from other people, acting as they are invulnerable and that the advice given by the Government is applicable only to the Elderly and not to them......is that the way you are thinking?:wallbanging:

                    I agree totally @Sheal @KFF and FC.

We live up a very quiet lane ...well not anymore as everyone has started to use it now, and a group of teenagers passed by mucking around and generally doing what teens do. How come!!!....didn't their parents know what they were all up too, or were they happy to get them out from under their feet!!......That made me livid!!!

@Sirius your post has left me speechless ...do you honestly think it is only your family that have been disrupted??

I feel so very sorry for the old folk, my Dad is almost 95 ,we have had to cut right back from visiting him, as he has been housebound now for 4yrs and is immunity will now be quite low and he is also very frail. I now go over only once a week to do his laundry, housework and to wash his hair, he looks so sad when I leave as he knows it will be a whole week until he has company again. It breaks my heart. So as you can see my lonely old Dad's life has been very much disrupted too.
Hope your children didn't hear your rants...not a very good role model are you. I hope they will have more respect for the elderly than you obviously have.

My hubby is just 70, so yes I suppose we were bad to for daring to go shopping this week....our grown up sons don't live anywhere near us, yes I have family nearby...as I said a very frail father, a disable brother and an older sister who has very bad arthritis and is still recovering from a double knee replacement. We would rather go in and do our own shopping as we are relatively fit compared to them and save home delivery slots for people like them who really need it.....if they can get one that is!

Your post has really upset me, unbelievable!!

Those 'elderly' people could well have been looking at you and thinking the same thing, why are the younger people going about their business as normal? Simple - you both need food to live.

You should do something positive to help society, rather than shopping for yourself why not offer to shop for them at the same time and deliver to some 'elderly' people, that would save them having to venture out. No-one enjoys having to shop at the moment particularly the 'elderly'. Don't forget many of them made big sacrifices so that people like you can have free speech and say such irresponsible things.
