You appear to have no understanding of the situation regarding testing in the UK. The kits themselves are not in short supply. The problem is that the government has chosen to keep all testing in house at its own facility which is not long opened and is still running below capacity. It has refused to use any of the forty plus other facilities that can, and indeed are, doing this test. They could handle 100000 tests a week on top of the government facility. So I have not taken anyone's test at all. The four weekly tests was a belt and braces approach carried out at the instructions of her employer on the family/partners of approx 600 employees who are scattered worldwide.

We are both living with her parents as I moved in between selling my flat in February and completing on one in London at the end of this month (which has now fallen through as my seller had her transfer to Seattle put on hold by her employer for at least six months). Liz's lectures, tutorials etc are now all being carried out online so there is no need for us to be in London.

Clearly I am in need of that refresher course then :heehee:

@longk cherry picking parts of a sentence to make a point is cheating! :heehee:

Anyway, I hope I never need to be tested. Looks like those kits cause terrible time lags. I made those comments last Friday :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Seems the best thing out of this is that you have not reported getting positive result from the tests so that is excellent! :blue thumb:

Sorry @longk ,but shouldn't the first thing for you to do was to tell your ex's company to remove you from her file ?

In your post above you make it sound as though this kit has been provided by your present girlfriends company, whereas it hasn't.

My daughters nanna passed 2 days ago(with help the family think) she had been in hosp a month ago with pneumonia, they tested her then for covid and she was ok and released when well enough but 5 days after she was admitted back in sadly never came out, they said the day before she passed she wasnt covid but only 1 member of family could come to her cos of the lockdown. The day after her death they rang and said she was covid and for the son(who had been there while she passed) and anyone he had been near to isolate ,her death cert apparently states pneumonia & sepsis but she will be marked as covid related i think.
There is a PDF on ONS website for covid residential cases,my laptop wont open it but my phone does, its too small to read thou for me,think they only started putting cases on 2 week ago.
They knew she was going to die soon but they feel she was injected to make way, heartbreaking for them x

That is very much the tip of the iceberg I'm afraid............

A fifth of smaller firms 'will run out of cash'

The government has put the banks in a difficult situation. By following the governments rules the banks are carrying the can. Yet they are also obliged by law to make a healthy profit or risk FSA sanctions. Yet it appears that the public perception is that they should agree to giving a business with (for example) a 5% margin of profit a loan when it has effectively just lost 8% of its turnover. People do not appear to know that the government is only the guarantor of last resort under the scheme. There are huge numbers of businesses whose balance sheets operate on a 'just in time' basis and they do not have cash in the bank to cover this unforeseen cost. As an example I have spoken to three car bodyshop owners this week. The nature of that trade is that insurance work accounts for almost all their work and as insurers operate under the same FSA regulations as banks they screw the repairers all the way down on their prices. Two of these b/shops operate on a 2% margin! The third operates at 10% as when the numbers drop too low he tells the insurers to take it elsewhere and whacks them for the storage. He can get away with this tactic as he is the approved b/shop for several premium car makers so the insurers generally relent. So whilst it is easy for us to point out fingers at the banks it needs to be remembered that it is the governments rushed measures that have not taken into account the low margins that many small to medium businesses operate on.

'The Government' have not put anyone in a particular situation, they have responded to a dire set of conditions and attempted as best they see fit to keep everyone alive while not crashing the economy overnight. I'd say they, and other governments, have been doing OK in the circumstances. Plenty of cash is being injected to the wider economy but yes, some small companies that were operating close to the breadline will fold. It would be impossible to keep every single business afloat. Businesses across the spectrum are in for a good kicking now and should take any lifeline they can find and grab, then brace for higher taxations in the aftermath. Not a happy outlook for anyone :(

Can't see yesterdays spike in new cases helping to remove any restrictions either. Think there will be an extension of another fortnight

I agree @Loofah the spike yesterday is going to keep us all under lockdown for a bit longer....sadly I very much think yesterday’s increase in numbers is only going to get worse over the next few weeks (I’m not being Mrs doom & gloom) if you look at the pattern in other countries it would suggest we are only at the start of this really . I think there will be tighter restrictions over the coming week(S) around here we still have whole families going to the supermarket :nonofinger: & kids playing out together  it’s ignorant & selfish.

moving forward to post virus times we are all going to be paying for this big time...but I think Boris has done the right thing we cannot let the economy collapse....but I do hope in a bid to start the long & winding road to recovery I hope we manufacture more things in this country.......?

Now would be a good time for people to plan for a NEW business, one that will fit in with perhaps be in high demand after a pandemic. No, I have no idea what that could be or I'd be doing it myself!

Would be good, or not good, to know just how many people are dying of other problems, cancer etc. while the whole world is focusing on corona.
I'm sure people with other major health problems are being shunted down the queue and likely to die as an outcome of this.

It's almost like the world has stopped even thinking about anything else.

Plenty of people I know have had operations cancelled or told to avoid hospital. I spoke to a woman yesterday who has something that would ordinarily hospitalise her but they said just forget it at this time. She might die in her own home instead...

                            Morrisons Food Box......Mine arrived today
The contents were loo rolls, kit rolls, milk, potatoes, carrots, cheese, pasta, ham, sausages, mince, bacon, onions, chix breasts, tins soup/beans, pasta sauce, butter & cabbage..........Not bad for £30 plus £5 delivery. Yes ok this is probably dearer then if you shopped in a supermarket.

i think you said it as it is, Loofah, and how, I believe, 99% of the UK is thinking. The Unions are more than happy with the way that Boris's Government has acted and done so so quickly. They've tried to put the people first in as many financial ways that they can and there will always be areas where they become aware to problems and try to act and there will always be people ready to criticise, while ignoring the fact that the financial institutions have been carrying on business as usual when they know there is nothing usual yet failing to work with the Government to provide ways to ease and help with the situation .

It seems to be easier to point fingers at the Government than the Banks:wallbanging: The Banks could/should have approached the Chancellor themselves with an immediate plan to pass the money via loans during the initial stages of this crisis. What they have done is to sit back keep offering loans with up to 30% interest. The Banks are headed by highly intelligent people who's only interest is the bottom line and not, as we has seen by their mis-selling of different products, their willingness to close businesses down in order to gain assets worth more than the loans given, etc. There was nothing to stop them when they clearly saw what was happening in the business world, for the first time in a long time, to step forward and quickly come up with a business and loan plan that would proved immediate financial relief to it's customers. The Chancellor and his Team have be acting quickly and doing even more than other countries in as many financial ways that they can, while the Banks have been sitting back blaming their customers for not being able to pay their debts and the Governments because they are the easy target.
I'm waiting for the suggestion, after the crisis is over, that we must rejoin the EU as that will be the way to solve the recovery after things get back to "normal"

Well, not really into banks and how they work, but I think it was put pretty well yesterday at the briefing at 5 pm.
The taxpayer bailed the bu**ers out when the crunch came 10yrs or so ago.

Its now their time to do the right thing and not be difficult.;)

Never understood how they pay investors pretty much 0% while charging borrowers/ credit card 30%, its robbery and they need sorting out big time.
