So many things will have to change...I don’t think there will ever be a ‘normal’ as we knew it, in some ways that will be a good thing but in other ways a bad thing @roders.
My friend is a GP he does most of his appointments via video link, has done for 18 months or so...I think that will become normal practice after this, I don’t know how I feel about that to be honest??

'Society will be fundamentally changed'?! I'm failing to see any driver that will alter schooling behaviour as a result of CV19 despite what the Grauniad thinks. Teachers have been suffering for decades (not just 10 years) and fundamental change is required, but CV19 is not the catalyst. Frankly I've always thought that education should be removed from government altogether, they change too frequently, there's bugger all linkage to industry and are so slow to implement anything any new 'thing' is outdated before it starts.

Me too. Although for any teacher who has been doing home-schooling remotely they may well be hopping that "schooling from home" becomes the norm so that they don't have a whole classroom of brats to have to corral :)

Good idea. I, and my kids, were privately educated. Each time Labour (or anyone else) wants to shut down private schools, or curtail them by putting lead weights around their neck, I shudder.

What needs to happen is for the state system to come up to the level of the private sector such that private isn't needed, not drag everything down to lowest common denominator.

I expect there will be an increased offering of remote schooling but it's already on offer, has been for some time. In fact in Africa, remote bits of Australia etc, it's the norm and works quite well. Set up Google Classrooms and bobs your uncle.

I think in the UK if we removed it from a ministers control then we could lead the world! Again. Then give it back, natch.

Of course (now you say it :) ) hadn't thought of that

My kids whilst at Uni had all their lectures available online. Very handy for revision and the odd occasion when they were too poorly to attend (any lecture first thing in the morning I expect!!)

But that then meant "zero attendance" so in #1 daughter's case the "online" version was only available to people who had attended, or got a sick-but-not-hungover pass :)

Ambulance arrived with blues and twos 4 doors away this afternoon. Paramedics wearing white suits, face masks and visors. After a while they came out having taken off that gear, perhaps to bag it, and moved their ambulance for a second one that arrived later, was there a short while, then left. Paramedics from first ambulance spent short time speaking to relatives of person taken away then left. I assume they have 'dirty' abulances that don't require deep cleaning every time they transport somebody in them.

But what gets me is that several neighbours gathered in a garden opposite, all standing in a close huddle. One was a grandchild of the person taken away who regularly visits, others were somebody in remission from cancer who helps with deliveries to another neighbour with severe health problems who's self isolating, her husband who works for the same employer as the grandchild [1], and the owner of the house who's wife has COPD and has recentley returned home after several weeks in hospital and has children and grandchildren from at least 2 other households still visiting, including carers several times a day [2].

Whatever's happening in parks, these people are as much of a risk.

[1] When we walked past where they worked this morning, they were several people at the back of a vehicle 0.8m apart, and others were unloading stuff from a vehicle whilst others picked it up.

[2] The carers we know who looked after my in-laws are taking rigorous precautions, but if other family members of vulnerable people are inviting other households round for child day care, barbeques, hot tub sessions, etc., into the house, there is no hope for people receiving care.

EDIT: Found out it was 3 ambulances that attended, maybe they used it for dome 'staff training' getting ready for the forthcoming peak.

Not bad thank you Mike - the nerve damage in my legs and arms would seem to be permanent, but I am on drugs that keep it relatively well controlled. Still some things I can't do, but the reality is that I can do a hell of a lot more than I was predicted to do, and that in itself is a bonus - hell, I can even pee (and that is something they said would never happen again until I had a transplant).

In reality, it would seem that Boris is currently in quite a good position in as much that he is fully conscious and on CPAP rather than fully ventilated - - comparing that with me being in a coma for six weeks, ECMO for the first week, ventilated for nearly eight weeks and in hospital for nearly four months, it would appear (thankfully) that Boris has the odds in his favour. If they can patch me up and get me going again, they certainly have the skills to fix Boris.

Whilst watching the news there's one thing that seems wrong and unnecessary - lots of news reporters standing outside the hospital and outside No. 10. All they're seeing is the front of the hospital and the door of No. 10. What a waste of time and are they keeping 2 metres from each other?

The ones outside St Thomas' Hospital aren't - I saw an image of them yesterday, and there was no way in hell there was 2m between each. The best of it is, Boris is not exactly going to stroll out and give them a wave on his way home; at best, they will get a wonky photo through a car window.

Worse still, these "journalists" are getting themselves in a complete lather as to who is in charge - Piers Morgan even asked who will press the button if there is a nuclear war. Flamin idiots the lot of them.

I thought that kind of thing was going to stop during this crisis.
It's a stupid enough idea at the best of times.

Our airports will close the 9th through the 13th (except for repatriation, military flights, etc) during our period of staying within our home county.

What concerns me is the burying of the deceased. ... 1,400 reported in France yesterday alone! Does the virus stay within the coffin? I myself want a cremation ... would it not be best to cremate these unfortunate souls.

Try and disperse the journos at your peril! They'll cry freedom of the press etc. Best anyone can achieve is a polite letter to the chief suggesting the journos follow current guidelines. I do rather think that given they're reporting on the guidelines several times a day they could perhaps follow them but what do I know?!
