Hi Andy, I've been away from GC since shortly after you started this thread and just now catching up on the progress of your renos. Definitely a difficult time to be trying to finish things up.

All the best, and hope there are peaceful days to some where you can get stuck into the garden.

You've got it easy with somewhere else to live, I can remember lying in the bath looking at stars in the night sky. The only contractor I used was for re-roofing, I pulled down 2 plaster and lath ceilings, tacked up new plasterboard and skimmed them myself.

Aside from the crippling outlay, wife being stressed to the eyeballs and two kids desperate to know when and why we're moving again and will we brings this and this and this...with us? Yeah, easy.

Thanks Cassie, it's not the best timing is it?! All progressing, albeit with some bumps... GArden will be a very looooong project!

We built an extension ... completely isolated from the main house during construction ... but still had dust everywhere ... and then when it was done the extension looked shiny-shiny and the original really shabby, so we rewired and all but gutted that. Dust then definitely got everywhere!

Builders were here for 3 years, on and off ...

I think that's the worst of it Kristen, it gets into every nook and cranny. It doesn't matter how much cleaning is done after the work is finished the dust still seems to appear. It takes weeks before it starts to settle down and dissipate even with the use of damp cloths.

Roof very nearly complete :) Most stud walls inside are up but can't see much as the windows are all boarded up! Underfloor heating and screed should be going down this week, supplies permitting.

That looks a grand job on the roof Andy. A good choice of tile colour too. :blue thumb:

I was so impressed with the job they've done! Looks amazing, very precise in matching and finish :) They finish up Thursday so need to get them a bundle of cash for then...

Had the heads up that plastering might be an issue as the gypsum industry has shut down and no-one knows if there's enough supply stocked anywhere.

It also has a shelf life and if it's been lying around in warehouse, shut down builders merchants etc. may have gone past its use by date. I think it causes it to set too quickly. Something to watch out for if your contractors can't get hold of any for some time.

They're good guys, certainly have been so far any way, so know their stuff and a lot more than me so will let them decide on if its OK or not. They have to refit if knackered :)

I've always wondered how the likes of DIY SOS works. Chuck the plaster on the wall and paint it whilst still wet ... not to mention being able to get 50 plasterers working concurrently in a one bed semi ...
