But they need to get more phone lines if they want to do over the phone consultations, you should still be able to contact reception for other things.

They might be open for business, but how do you make an appointment?

Yes, but first week more people came out here then went back to normal, last week doubled in traffic/people than normal, we've never seen the traffic/people get less than a normal week, the only time I see what they call a lockdown is went we go shopping and the roads are quite but shops are busy

          Just phone easy.
I must admit it is a big turnaround.

At what point does an essential repair become tarting the place up though? Whilst we were out for prescription stuff, we had to drop some clothes into the local recycling bins (near some local shops), then we went to Homebase to get some carpet tiles (Mrs C went in, I was chauffeur) - - now, you could say that is tarting the place up, based on the view of that being just carpet tiles it is cosmetic and therefore not essential.

However, the whole story is that a couple of days ago I found that the kitchen units in our outhouse had essentially collapsed and the worksurface and shelving balanced on the top was threatening to fall over (damage and potential injury), so the safest thing was to take them down before they fell down. Now we had tinned foods, bottles, cooking trays etc stored at the back of my living room (not ideal with me being less than steady on my feet at times), so something had to be done.

In the end, rather than refit el-cheapo kitchen units to an unheated and therefore mildly damp room only to have them collapse again eventually, I opted to rip them all out, extend the carpet and put in place two of those 6ft metal office style cabinets with shelves in them. Indeed, we have just finished doing it all and putting everything back where it should be. I had no choice but to extend the carpet tiles or they wouldn't have been on level flooring.

Besides, if folks are tarting up their houses and DIY stores are open, what is the harm as long as they keep their distance? Surely better that than having more and more businesses hit the wall?

Exactly, at some point reality will have to dawn on those in charge and things will have to get going again, otherwise we could still be like this come christmas.

I agree that businesses need to start reopening asap, I have said so on this thread several times. This country will be bankrupt very quickly if the economy can't be kick started again, as it is the national debt has increased astronomically to keep things ticking over with only about a third of us still earning and more importantly paying taxes. The govt is losing out on fuel tax too so I bet they silently wish that people would get back in their cars, same with the hardware stores the govt is secretly happy they are selling non-essential stuff hence they have made it a grey area. Plus there are so many folk out of work right now and need to earn a wage to feed themselves there will be civil unrest if it goes on for much longer.

Sadly it's a trade off between lives and money.

Same here, I registered with mine online prior to the lockdown, the blank form had to be collected from the surgery and shown some ID, I was hoping they would ask for someone who has known me for 30 years to witness it, in which case it would be my doctor :) Actually the receptionists have always been very helpful and didn't even bother getting me to fill in the form, they just added me there and then without any fuss.

Anyway, Mrs JWK tried to register after lockdown and can't get a form because the surgery doesn't allow visitors, their telephone doesn't get picked up nor go to voicemail and no email addresses have been published. It's like the dark ages.

Seems like others on here have better luck with their surgeries, suppose it's always been a postcode lottery.

My sincere apologies if much of this has been said before by me. Thankfully my daughter Amanda did eventually manage to book grocery deliveries from Tesco. We have managed to keep going.

We both shop also at Sainsbury's and despite all the emails from the CEO, we have been unable to log-in and book a delivery. Fair do's. Difficult times etc, but it appears most supermarkest have closed down regarding you and I contacting them.

A couple of days ago. I had a phone call from the National office of public services or what ever. I accepted that the chap was genuine as he knew so much about me. He asked if I had had a letter from my GP about vulnerable patients. NO. The only letter as such was a message from the PM. He assured me I was very vulnerable. viz. I was under Guys hospital for Cancer. Cardiac Aortic stenosis. General med/condition. Sufferring with colitis and IBS. Glaucoma and yes. This guy thingy. 80yrs.

Having been involved in the past with ID cards etc. I became very involved. For instance. Despite not being a world wide traveller. I beleive that most countries insist that everyone carries an ID Card. Here in the UK ?????????? Having been a traffic cop. It is unbelievable the number of motorist who have no identity on them. With the advent of the plastic card and modern technology. I proposed that a compulsory digital card should become the norm. Here with technological seperating. Police could instantly identify a suspect. Medics could gain immediate medical records and so on. Governmental departmens could instantly identify you. Of course the opposers crawl out of the woodwork.. Invasion of privacy and all that.

I have to admit. I now tend to respect and understan tecnology more. When you consider. Bobots can cary out brain surgery. Come on. Isn't it time mankind gave life a second glance.

I agree. Although we have only phoned once since the troubles but only had to wait ten minutes to get through.

I put our repeat prescriptions through their prescription box (it has always been there on the outside of the building) at 1 a.m. this morning. :rolleyespink:

The surgery registration and website is Patient Access, I always presumed this was a nationwide system(?) We have been using this for years to book repeat prescriptions and sometimes appointments. The pharmacy is part of the surgery, and you can collect your prescription 48 hours after requesting. We did ask if they could deliver them to our door, as I am at risk, but they said demand was to high. Not a problem as Jans daughter collects the prescriptions in one visit.
I thought you could register with your surgery over the phone, but apparently not.

Thank you @HarryS But I still can't get in touch with my surgery but will keep trying:smile:

To begin the registration process, please call your practice or visit them in person. They will advise you of the next step to take.

You will need to provide proof of identity at some point: your practice will also advise you when this will be required.

Once your practice has supplied you with a registration letter you can return here to complete the registration

I've come across a website that my doctors used to use it was called vision on line, apparently I signed up for it years ago and just rummaged around to find my log in details.
Logged in and it has moved to something called Patient Services and apart from having to change my password I seem to have got into it.

Still cant contact the surgery through it , cant make appointment and cant work out how I get repeats as its all up for review this month, so basically I still got to contact the surgery some how.

I'm thinking maybe smoke signals or a long piece of string and two tin cans.
