I tend to think mowing gets the coarse stuff sorted out, but I think you have to mow a bit shorter for it to work.
Maybe wait for some proper advice from a lawn expert.

      I just have grass.

Yes, regular short cutting will affect its growth and hopefully they die away.

However not everyone can cut the lawn several times a week, plus you will need a mower than can cut that low.

Have seen some of the old lads (1950s) cut it once or twice a day, but they were such perfectionists, no one was allowed on it !

We use one of these very thin sharp blades and slash the piece of course grass several times, most of it can then be brushed aside and you can then see the crown/root which you can dig out or spot treat with a weedkiller.

The finer grasses will then be able to grow over the gap.

        Thanks

Will weed killer works when these are cut too low.?

I have Weedol Lawn one. Will that work on them as that weedol does not kill finer grass

There is no weedkiller that can selectively kill certain varieties of grass and leave other grass varieties untouched. Lawn weedkillers like Weedol are for killing off broad leaved plants growing amongst grass, such as dandelions and buttercups.

I think most mowers will go low enough, and I think several times a week is a bit over kill.
Maybe twice if it's growing fast would be enough.

I tend to think that mowing grass short and frequent in these drought stricken days is not a good idea ,weeks without rain will not encourage enough growth and you will end up with dead grass that will take ages to come back.
One method I have used is to plant grass seed in a seed tray ,it will grow quickly this time of year then you can cut out a square of course grass and replace with fresh new grass which will grow away readily if watered.

            Okay

            I will give a go.

May try first with cutting with thin knife and see if they come back.
