Can't anyway - we shall hear more on Thursday. Even if shops here are given the green light - I won't be queueing. I didn't queue before the lock down - nothing has changed for me in this respect.

Fair comment, and I agree that the story about Barnard Castle is a bit of a tall tale - I suspect that he simply wanted to get out for some fresh air after being ill. Clearly the wrong thing to do. I am not for one moment saying that everything he did was right, because it wasn't - however, the baying mobs still screaming for this guys head on a plate is quite ridiculous, and it is only so because of who he is. Stephen Kinnock and Tahir Ali both breached lockdown (Tahir Ali the worst of the bunch in my opinion), and yet there is nobody screaming for their resignation - why is that?

Also, I agree with your not about people breaking H&S rules at work - I too work in an industry that has no second chances as you know, and I have been that guy who escorts people off the premises and/or terminates their employment on more than one occasion. Nothing that Cummings did was whilst he was at work.

If you chose to stack chairs one on top of the other to get to the top of a tree in your garden and went up there with a chainsaw to lop the top off that tree and your boss found out and sacked you, would that be right?

It is the witch hunt that I really, really dislike and it happens time and time again.

Cummings had an isight into the rules of the lockdown that the public were not told, it appears.
If he did nothing wrong then certainly the rest of us were not told the full rules, I watched the briefings every afternoon and the message was you could only travel to work if you were a key worker and go to buy food.

I cannot remember anyone telling us about exceptional cases, it might well have been in there but who got a copy of the fine print.

He might only be an employee, but that's putting it simply, he is an employee who helped write the rules.

I really do wonder, if this individual is so important to Boris what the hell do we need Boris for if he is pulling his strings all the time behind the scenes.

Boris has been pretty nonexistent for weeks, Ok so he got the virus, wonder where he picked that up from???
But he still seems to be dodging most of the issues now.

I never really liked Boris, but he did go up in my estimation for a while, he's now gone back to being that idiot that just ducks and dives when the going gets tough.

Hancock appears to be doing Boris's job as far as I can see.

Hancock has put up with all the flak since Boris went off sick.
I really admire the bloke and he was there again tonight trying to defend the actions of Cummings.
          Where is Boris??????
          Cummings is his mate.

I can't disagree with almost all of that @pete - Boris is an utter buffoon, just as he was as Mayor of London. I did wonder at one time if Hancock was being set up for a fall over this C19 nonsense, and am still not convinced that it is not going to go that way.

Cummings may well be Boris' mate, and he may well be someone who wrote the rules - but he did not make those rules by himself, nor is he alone in making errors in all of this; the difference here is that there is no lynch-mob screaming to get shot of the other three (or more). I have read (although there is no way to verify how true it is) that whilst Cummings and Johnson were off sick there was some goings on within government offices where the 'establishment' were trying to put things in place to force an extension to the transition period for Brexit; when Cummings got back to the office and found out, he torpedoed those plans, and that is why they are gunning for him - - seems plausible given that it is the same badgering/baying mob that made all those noises about Priti Patel when the bullying allegations were made (subsequently proven to be unfounded).

No matter what way you cut it, the media's behaviour in all of this is disgusting, and they seem to have lurched from bad to worse over recent years - they have had a significant part to play in whipping this all up, and are continuing it on as well.

I agree, the media are not on the side of right, just on the side of coming up with a good story at any expense. But then they always are.

The Brexit thing, I dont know, but if Boris was really in charge and running things he'd sort it out.
Boris is flaky , he waffles and blusters and is, on the rare occasions we see him, not convincing.

What you are actually saying is Cummings is in charge?
Not just an advisor, but actually in charge and running the country?

Well maybe Boris does need him really badly then.

That is a scary thought but would explain why Boris is petrified at the moment.

Not necessarily in charge overall, but I have a feeling that he is Boris' troubleshooter to some degree - his pit bull if you like. In fairness, there are many people out there in business who have people who work closely with them and that are relied upon; indeed, I was at one time part of a team of three who were linked in such a way - where the top dog went, us other two under him had to follow, and those above the top dog knew that and used it to their advantage when they needed a troubleshooting team in or a team to kick off a new venture or contract. It worked because we all knew how each other ticked, we all knew which of us was good at doing what, and we knew we could rely on each other implicitly.

I'm very slow to react to stuff people put on the internet - but this one did raise an eyebrow - from the Frontpage web site if anyone is interested to read the full article:

The UK should never have been in lockdown.

All decisions made after 24 March 2020 have been about maintaining the myth that lockdown was necessary, solely to cover the backs of those who created it. The evidence is right there in our faces: enormous emergency hospitals opened to great applause, then quietly mothballed because they were never needed. You may try and argue that empty hospitals are a good thing, but if there was so much extra capacity, why did the British NHS send elderly patients with COVID-19 back to care homes and cancel all cancer and cardiac treatments?

As we "speak" here, yet another Zombie Hospital is being built for patients that don’t exist for a threat that never was. A team of 100 builders are working full-time to create 120 beds in a hospital that will not have its own staff, in a part of the country with the fewest cases of coronavirus. I went to visit the build-site to see for myself.

I'm no fan of conspiracy theories and this is easily debunked (in my simple mind). Remember the terrible scenes in Italy where their health services was overwhelmed? Patients on mattresses outdoors, every single ventilator used? The UK did the right thing in building the Nightingales preparing for the worst case scenario. Right now some have never been used but we are in uncharted territory still, there is the risk of a second peak, the 1919 Spanish flu winter second peak was much more deadly.

Sorry @JWK, but I don't like or agree with having the Spanish flu held up as an example of what could happen now. At least not in developed countries. I know that is what the media keeps talking about but they are all whores for the next sensational story.

Let's face it, we're a heck of a lot more hygienic than a hundred years ago. They had outdoor loos with no place to wash your hands. Weekly bathing wasn't considered unusual.:rolleyespink: People weren't cleaning their homes like they are now either. I remember my dad telling me that you could tell which sock went of which foot by the second day. He was one of 9 children and no automatic washer. Not at all near the way things are these day!

I just can't connect the two pandemics other than the fact that the human body is efficient on passing around viruses and germs. And lots of hand washing and face masks have helped plenty when taken seriously.
