Yes agree, but probably not in my lifetime.
This is going to take years to pay back.
And guess who will be paying, ..............us.

I think after all that is going on China should be cold shouldered in the future by the rest of the world.
We should all get used to not buying their cheap rubbish and start pretending the place doesn't exist, apart from keeping an eye on them militarily.

The economy will be back and thriving early 2021. Not sure who else can pay but "us". Hope we don't have "them" waiting around the corner

Do you really think so Harry, just getting the economy thriving is not really the issue as such, the way I see it.
Its paying the bill due to government borrowing to pay for this.

We were just coming out of umpteen years of so called auserity, and we just blew it all in the space of a few months.

I live in a town that is well known for having been the safe haven at the end of the underground railroad. People went across lake Ontario (36miles) at night and through all kinds of conditions at to smuggle slaves up from the US. Those smugglers risked their lives and others, by hiding the runaways, took chances on being arrested. We have a museum which has a full section devoted to how things were, the laws and how we tried to help. We have an emancipation parade led by our black community every summer.

And those idiots decided to put on a protest here last week. Not only idiots but ignorant idiots. The gall !

I am looking forward to being able to have the "have I already had it?" test.Went down with something "heavy?" in February but recovered well enough.
I won't be so wary of this beast if, what I had, was a manageable dose of it. I am still inclined to believe that most will get it and come through it.

I well understand FC's feelings. I respected my daughter's concerns for me and I've been confined to home since end of January. She phones every day and pops over to bring me my shopping etc.

On account of the advice that we shouldn't enter others homes, it has been like chance meetings. In all honesty. I've had enough of life. I lost my wife on 9.6.2010 after 49 yrs of marriage. Four years later I was diganosed with a cancer, for which I have had some six operations. I have lost interest in my garden and now, finally I am losing the will to continue studying etc.

TV news is nothing but charts and repeats of the death toll etc. Seeing these demonstrators acting with total unconcern for others. I can't believe it. The longest I now get to chat is on here, kind of chatting with you friends.

Pete we didn't exactly blow it, as the UK and virtually every other country in the world had no choice but to spend a virtual war budget to protect the populations. There obviously will be a return to some form of austerity and higher taxation is very likely. But the economy will rebound but not in exactly the same shape as it was. The UK, USA and European stock markets have rebounded 90%. ( Presume the far East has but I don't follow them). Europe has recovered from all it's pointless wars over the past centuries, I am sure covid will not be it's nemesis.

My attitude is optimism, tempered by realism, and my family history shows that for over half a millennium we have survived oppression (uprooting and moving/escaping), disasters (natural and man-made) and wars. I shall attempt to make the most of whatever happens and try and remain eternally optimistic.

Wow! That was a bit deep!!! :loll:

The UK demonstrators won't cause a spike. They are only a tiny fraction of the population from a section of society who are ignorant or couldn't care less about the virus so would already be flouting the rules.

The very few thugs who attacked the police have lost public sympathy we now view the whole lot as uncaring idiots. We still have slavery in the modern world, toppling 200 year old statues isn't the answer.

                            I couldn't agree more!

I certainly agree with the protest against what happened in America (and is still happening in most countries) but destroying symbols that could be related to slavery and oppression is a negative way of pointing up the problem, and only polarises people's views of each other. Where do you stop if that is taken as a way to proceed? Do you pull down the Pyramids at Giza?

This morning I found this info on Algarve ...

The Province of Algarve registers 389 accumulated positive cases, since the beginning of the panademic, 304 have recuperated, 16 have died, leaving 69 active cases in the region.

I live in Silves County which has a population of 37,000+ in 680 square kilometers. We registered 20 confirmed cases, 14 have recuperated and no deaths. I live about 20 minutes from the town of Silves. I feel pretty safe here.
