    Hi There,

Can someone tell me what type weed is this please? Would weedol get rid of it? They are literally all over the garden. I should add that I tried using evergreen 4 in 1 and it didn't seem to work on them! Thanks!

Dandelion. I don't use weedkillers....just pull them up. One thing to make sure of, if they reach blooming stage, is to dead head quickly so that seedheads aren't formed.

NB dandelions are edible; root and leaf and flower. Look up the nutritional profile, as they are superfoods. Alas I have eaten all mine! I munched the flowers and omitted to let some seed.

Wondering why folk are so … odd... re eating a food that is regarded as a weed yet that is nutritionally excellent? it is the same about chickweed and nettles.

Oh very droll...It has simple diuretic properties that were valued in the times before artificial diuretics were available.

Indeed, they are still used in many herbal teas and a lot of the (often exorbitantly expensive) detox potions that are around even nowadays, because of those very diuretic properties

Dandelions are very good for pollinating insects, especially bees of all sorts in spring when the bees first emerge and when there are often not many nectar rich flowers about. Once seed is set finches, particularly Linnets and Goldfinches come to feed on them. Watching this is one of my pleasures which is why I encourage them.
