PEONY "BARZELLA"

I bought Peony "Barzella" last year when looking through a pile of Peonies being sold cheaply in packets at a local LIDL's and placed it in a large green pot.......




But when I bought this Peony, along with several others, I didn't realise that it was a Inter-sectional (Itoh) Peony, a cross between a Herbaceous Peony and a Tree Peony. I also didn't realise that Inter-sectional Peonies had been released in packets to Supermarkets. A inter-sectional Peony from a Nursery can cost between £15 to £75
so I reckon mine, bare root, was a bargain at "1.75p.!!

 

Well, it was among about 5 others that I bought, Caroline, but those others were Herbaceous Peonies such as Duchesse le Nemours, Inspecteur Lavergne, Shirley Temple, and Buckeye Belle, but it was an "unknowing" buy in that I didn't realise it was an inter-sectional Peony until I looked it up

 

Well, Caroline, this was mid-Summer of last year and although I've kept an eye out for such other bargains I've not seen any since then.

 

Hi Scotkat, good to hear from you. To be honest, I don't think your Peony is "Bartzella" as "Bartzella" has yellow flowers...........


I think yours could be either "Sonoma Velvet Ruby"..........


Or possibly "Julia Rose"...............

I planted mine into a large pot just under 12 months ago as an experiment and started feeding it straightaway so I was pleased this year it produced a flower...............


I really wasn't expecting anything until next year so I was pleased that it at least gave me the one flower
