Just came across this, brought back some memories.
Not that far from me, but seemed a lot further away back then, 35 mins down the motorway now.

Feel free to add any you find nostalgic about.

Looking back from nearly 80? Put it this way; I find more and more I am without thinking reverting to the simpler way of life of my former years. A more basic life with less... clutter... and more space mentally and physically. eg my phone is a basic Tesco "pay as you go" and I rarely use it. It is all I NEED and maybe that is the key word in this? What most folk call basics to me are extras... Central heating..
The fire, the hearth, was the focus of family life, before central heating, and before TV ( and I would never now have a TV; was offered one and said no) we would gather there, play board games round it.
.A car always. People now seem to have higher expectations of facilities? I revel in the simplicity of my life here. It is all.... quieter... and more like my earlier life. Oh of course the one huge exception is the internet! Which has simplified my life ...lol....even further. It is my library, my shopping !

Please can someone correct the title? As a former English teacher my red pen finger is itching!
            "Were things better.."

            Thank you.

It made me laugh at the 'there's always plenty of parking' part :rolleyespink:. All yellow lines and expensive car parks. Even the seagulls have trouble finding a space!

The cliff lift (Leas lift funicular) opened in 1885 and closed in 2017 for 'safety improvements'. 'Elf and Safety wanted a second braking system installed and money was gifted from the sea front and harbour authorities to do the work and renovations. They also needed more public donations to complete the projected works. It was supposed to be finished by the end of last year but they are now projecting 2023!!!

The last time I used it! It was quite steep :hate-shocked:

I used to like going to Folkstone for the shellfish, not too far from the cliff lift, there used to be an old guy selling prawns, cockles etc. His was never gritty, and the dressed crab, was a favourite, infact I remember a girl I was dating at the time, gave me the elbow, because I ate shellfish, I did enjoy my time with the shellfish, more than with her anyway.
The seafood, is the only thing I miss from my costal town days, the rubber cockles, in brine, in jars, of nowdays are rank. I did write this very carefully, as there is a teacher type, with a red pen finger.
                    6 out of 10 miss?

As the official reprimand I found, of great length, was far far more severe than my attempted humorous comment warranted I am forced to quit the forum lest any further comments of mine get misinterpreted and I get verbally offensively attacked again.

It was way OTT. Deeply offensive. Made me sick to my aged stomach. Literally.

I am too old and too ill for this. Clearly I am a misfit here so will depart. Else logging on would be too stressful for me.

                          IT WAS A JOKE

And there are tactful and non destructive ways to tell folk off!

Over and out; and I truly never thought this could happen here; so clearly I am in the wrong place. Trusted .

That was nice Pete, brought back some memories. I was in Alabama then, having married in 1968 and things were more casual there in Panama City, Florida (nearest beach). However, I remember learning the Sword Dance in school and I have photos of my family at Great Yarmouth in the late 50s / early 60s and my Auntie wearing a dress snoozing in a deck chair and my Uncle in a suit sitting in the sand! :heehee:

Thanks for that, made me smile.
