The driveway at the front of my property has an old stone wall that might be considered a little unsightly. I was tempted to build a large rectangular wooden planter to sit along the top of the wall between the two pillars. Does that sound like a good idea or would it look weird having a planter in that space?

A planter is something I'd probably do there, sounds like a good idea to me.

Two things spring to mind....the first is watering, drainage and the effects on the wall! The second is making sure that the plants don't encroach on the pavement space. Oh and thirdly, depending where you live, Sandhun, possible vandalism?

I'm not too fussed about potential damage to the wall. I might look to replace it anyway in several years time.

As for plants encroaching on pavement space, it's a possibility but I could always cut them back. Undecided, as to what planting would look good there. Would rather have something evergreen for year round interest.

Hmm, you're right, there is potential for vandalism, it's on a main road. If I were to just put a few containers along that wall people could easily push them off but a heavy planter would be harder to move.
