    Hi Gardening Lovelies,

In the Autumn my beautiful Mum, who has dementia, planted the Allium bulbs we bought together. But now they've come up, they don't seem to look right, compared to the photos I have seen of others?

Not sure whether they are going to burst into loveliness soon or we did something wrong? And if so, will they be OK next year?

Any advice gratefully received, thank you :love30: IMG_1995.jpeg :love30: IMG_1996.jpeg

Thank you @pete but they have looked like that since they came out, I think! Perhaps I didn't pay enough attention to them, thank you for replying and sorry for being stupid

Well I know alliums are onions basically, but flowering onions, so should have flowered back in the spring early summer.
But these do look to me like, just onions.

I dont grow these so I could be wrong, but they look very similar to culinary onions to me.

I bought some cheap 'white alliums' from the pound shop. They came up looking exactly like yours ie like common onions. I have left them for now as the bees love them, but they will be coming out in the autumn and probably replaced by allium schubertii

Allium is the family of all onions, all are edible.

Thank you @CarolineL , that's useful. Mum and I bought them from a local nursery, but she choose and planted them, so I didn't see the packet (probably wouldn't have made any difference!). The bees do love them, so will leave them and will get some more for this Autumn. Love the look of the ones you mentioned, will see if I can get some like those, thank you for sharing.

Thank you @daitheplant, I didn't know that, but I don't think I'll cook with them, my cooking skills are as good as my gardening skills :heehee:
