We did a 2nd viewing yesterday, oh my, because it's in the Fens, no clay clad soil, no stones, no weeds and my veg bed already dug....... nothing for me to do except erect a greenhouse, polytunnel and sow veggie seed. Oh, no onion white rot either, I can grow my Kelsaes again.

Can I move there sooner rather than the 3 years we planned?

Sounds perfect. Was there a house as well?

I'm also browsing houses and apparently I'm planning to buy a large garden next to a bus stop with a house somewhere nearby :heehee:

A house comes with the garden, it's lovely! (house and garden)

Once we've moved in and I've snuffed it, no problem, we are surrounded by fields, just dig a hole and throw me in, I won't mind, I'll be dead. Not just yet though, can't die, Ive got too much to do.

Is 3 years the retirement plan @Vince? If so, I'd try to speed things up. Somewhere I remember reading some advice that said 'Where possible, always exchange money for time' and I'd agree - if you can afford to go earlier - do it!

@Vince what a lovely feeling it is. :dbgrtmb: I did the same last year. A nice new garden. No pesky squirrels, no vine weevil and no plants no fighting neighbour's. ( amongst themselves) Had a fresh start. I wish you all the best

              Welcome to big sky country!

Since I moved down south in 99, I've lived in various bits of Cambridgeshire from Willingham down. I'm just about out of the Fens now I'm in St Neots, but the middle of our town is still floodplain for the River Ouse.

I remember the more fenny places though. Beautiful, but you could stand on a phonebook and see for miles.

I lived for 50 years on the Fens... and I never saw it as beautiful.... but the garden was always healthy! I now live in an area of outstanding natural beauty (Glens of Antrim).... but everything dies in the garden!

I must apologise for my previous comment! When you have lived in a place most of your life you just don't see the beauty. Or it may be that when I was growing up I couldn't get away with anything because your mum could always see you.... even if you were miles away! I lived in a small village near March and it was super friendly.

@Graham B That sounds so funny to me when you refer to down south as Cambridgeshire. I live on the south coast and we all consider that once you pass Watford Gap services you're approaching up north and may possibly need to find a bureau de change ha ha. I used to visit my friend in Cumbria and I think its absolutely beautiful. I think everywhere has its own kind of beauty. Sorry off topic a bit.:)

I'm the same in reverse. Being originally from Lancashire, I see signs round your way saying "London and the North", and just think "nope".:)

Sounds like an ideal place for you @Vince.

I think of anywhere north of Salisbury as in the North.

@shiney I'm not sure I should ask, but why does it look like you've got blood stains on your fingertips? Do we need to worry about what happened to the last person who disagreed with your compass skills?
