    I had a vast haul of very cheap Jacks Magic before lockdown, but as I previously thought it inclined to becoming 'puddingy', I bought a load of JAB MIC despite it looking 'woolly' (fiberous), and mixed the 2 together.

    Best root systems formed that I can remember, 30L 'tree pots' with single toms in have vast footballs filling the entire tub right up to the surface of the compost, but addition of mycorrhizal fungi has probably helped.

      I am also a great believer in mycorrhizal fungi and the micro herd

        They are both juicy but the Piccolo flavour is more concentrated and sweeter. The Tumbling Tom's need a little more sun.

          Just picked a wee handful of black cherry toms - taste really nice :)

            Hundreds & thousands tomatoes? Has anyone grown these? I didn't label my baskets when I planted my toms and I know I've got one hundreds and thousands in one of the baskets, I've got loads of toms but one basket in particular has got very small toms (which are ripening) I'm just wondering if this is the way of the variety or something else causing it?

            Hi.
            This is my first year of properly trying to grow tomatoes from seed in a greenhouse, I seem to be spending more time at home this year! I used some seeds from shop brought tomatoes, because we like the variety, and now have 8 plants in our greenhouse.

            Some of the leaves have started to get brown areas forming on them and was wondering what might be causing it?
            I don't know if it's fungus as the shape of the discolouration is more of a mottling rather than distinct circles.

              I am no expert, but that looks more like a nutrient deficiency than a fungus to me - what are you feeding them with and how often?

                My opinion is that at this time of year it’s not too much to worry about. They are annuals after all and are under stress from all that fruit production and within a few months will be dead. Mine look like that and I always strip off the lower leaves at this time of year. The season is short and the important part is the tomatoes. Don’t get stressed but feed them now and again.

                  I've been feeding them once a week, 20ml of Tomatorite mixed with 4.5l of water per bag, only 2 plants per grow bag.

                    Thanks @Redwing and @Fat Controller for your advice. The first few tomatoes are starting to ripen so hopefully will be able to enjoy them in a couple of weeks!

                      looking at the cut tomatoes the piccolo has had good pollination and is full of seeds and the tumbling tom has had poor pollination and has a heavy core and fewer seeds, the gel around the seeds enhances taste, more gel less core more taste

                        I grow plum tomatoes that are known to have more flesh and less seed.
                        I don't think it has anything to do with pollination, it's more about variety. :smile:

                          Hi @JWK, It's mainly the lower leaves to half way up the plant so thinking they'll be okay.
