@strongylodon I'll give it a go and see what happens, if successful will post pictures.
Today dead heading, weeding, watering, trim grass edges, watch the bees going mad on the Echinops.

Yesterday was much too hot to do anything but the early harvesting (already done it this morning). It reached 95F/35C yesterday and the forecast for the next five days is over 30C.

We're watering the greenhouse and pot plants (with the hose) twice a day and it takes over an hour each time. The trays that all the chillies and tomatoes sit in (in the greenhouse) are topped up four times a day as are the birdbaths/drinking water.

The local cats drink from them too (they're all on the ground) and they seem to respect them as being neutral territory and don't chase the birds. Sarafi sat and watched a blackbird have a bath, from about 20ft away, and then went for a drink when the bird had flown. Of course, it could be that he is a voyeur! :heehee:

Very hot and muggy but I've been out in the garden all morning, just walking around and doing all non- strenuous jobs that I come across..re- staking , seed collecting, dead heading, removing any frazzled foliage , picking more plums and tomatoes.
After lunch we'll pop over to feed the fish at my parents house.

Downloaded a couple of gardening books from the library this morning so will come back and enjoy them in our garden with a nice cool drink.:Wino:

I had a day off yesterday, and spent it in the garden. Very overcast but Hot!

It was a Day Of Discoveries. I took a closer look at the tatty corner where abandoned plants go for palliative care on their way to the brown bin. I found some blue Campanula still alive (just), some white of the same stuff, rooted cuttings of Vinca Minor and a decommissioned fruit bowl.
              :ideaIPB:
And voila, here's the ugliest hanging basket on earth. I'm confident it will be splendid next summer. :heehee:
              uglybasket.jpg
A desktop rose bought from M&S for the decorative pot last year had magically survived the winter so got a new pot in spring. I had also sown lettuce in a half- full washing up bowl I believed to be just soil, but discovered that apparently bedding Begonias are perennial in the new winters up here. So they went together into a container of survivors. The begonias have very pale leaves thanks to being in total shade, but also healthy buds.
              doorstepdelight.jpg
The next discovery was a new breed of tomatoes I call Dracula for it's love of full shade. I cut off some leaves from the tiny tom plants to open them up, and in the deepest part of the mass of foliage, carefully sheltered from any rays of light, found perfectly ripe fruit. The pictures are after a thickness of a foot of leaves were already cut off.
              tomatodig.jpg draculatom.jpg

And the last discovery- I had indeed mixed my Dahlias up. I have pink and white dinnerplate Dahlias, and faithfully forget to label the bulbs when I dig them up. So now I have a white container Dahlia to contrast a white rose, and my pink ones are nicely setting off pink Hydrangeas :wallbanging:
              pinkonpink.jpg

In total lack of bamboo canes I had to improvise and support Gladiolus and Dahlia blooms with spare bits of blowaway greenhouse tubing. Not the most elegant solution, but certainly sturdy. And hopefully the amazing blooms will draw the eye away of the rather industrial looking supports

And one more mentionable thing. My Tesco delivery was late, which it never, ever is. I was just about to call the helpline to ask if there has been an accident or something, when the van turned up. The driver, new to me, apologised and explained that he had a disabled customer so had spent a while putting her shopping in the right places. Then he had a look at my front garden and we ended up having a 10min discussion on the plants, on rejuvenating a Lavender, benefits of Hydrangea colour feed vs. natural acidity and the pros and cons of clay soil. I do hope I was his last customer or he would have to invent another disabled customer to explain the delay

We have been out for a 5 mile walk this morning, a bit hot and humid as it is cloudy, just about to start weeding and edging the borders again.

It’s too hot to do much today, but I’ve abandoned mum’s side a few times (aka escaped for a tiny burst of sanity) and put out the “free” box of lavender bunches, watered the toms and the little doorstep plant pot (the astilbe is loving it), and cut some more lavender.

A strange combination: an astilbe, a phlox, and a golden(ish) leaved thyme. But they were the plants that looked good at the garden centre, and it looks happy, 10 days in....

Just picked a couple of pounds of blackberries and now watching the sun go down.
                        Quite a nice sunset tonight.

Early morning, pre sunrise but already light, I picked 8lb of beans then put the sprinkler on them. Apart from watering the pot plants and greenhouse (1 hour morning and afternoon but done by Mrs S) we stayed indoors away from the pong of the muck spreading.

As it was getting dusk the wind picked up and blew the pong away from us. So I then cut Mrs Shiney's hair out in the cooler air - supervised by the cat

@Logan I got that picture from the internet but these are some pics of Sarafi. He actually lives four doors away but spends all day here - mostly asleep.

He has his own sleeping place in the greenhouse

But also sleeps on one of the compost heaps

And does actually get up and prowl occasionally
