Very nearly purchased an Echo Auto - to get Alexa in the car. Then I had an epiphany...:ideaIPB:.

Why not use one of my old Echo Dots?

Well, I installed it today and it works a treat. The dot fits nicely into the car cup holder. It is powered from the accessory socket; connected to my 'phones hotspot and uses the car speakers via the aux input socket with an appropriate cable. If I had a nuer motor then I could have simply connected the sound via bluetooth.

Interesting that the new Echo Dot's don't have a mini usb power supply - so not so easy to installl the generation 2 dot - was this a cunning ploy by Amazon to promote their mini usb powered Echo Auto?

@strongylodon I just said to Mr S what's an echo dot so he looked it up. I know what Alexa is, I've used it at my daughter's house and it doesn't always respond.

Something that is not for me:dunno::heehee: I like gadgets, but I'm not keen of widgets that gather information/data about the owner for tech companies. So, I'll stick to my Radio and Sat Nav in my Horseless Carriage.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

It is a 'smart speaker' connected to the internet and voice controlled. Amazon's version is the Echo and the virtual assistant is Alexa, there are others. So you talk to it and ask it for the latest news, or play your favourite music or any question. Basically it's like using Google hands-free.

Alexa controls all the lights and technical equipment in my daughter's house. I was staying with them last Christmas and often last to bed. It would have been quicker to flip switches than battle Alexa to get the lights turned out.
