I had to get a new camera. It wouldn't let me take any photos unless I put in the date, time and where in the world I lived! I started reading through the 100 page manual but didn't understand most of the terminology . So I've set it on automatic. :blue thumb:

We went off to an RHS garden yesterday and the blerry thing wouldn't work :mute: . So I started pressing all the dozens of buttons to see what happened. I finally got it to work - I took the lens cap off! :wallbanging: :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

My previous camera used to yell at me if I'd forgotten to take the cover off. :blue thumb:

It's a retrograde step for them to take the yell away! :nonofinger:

                @Mike Allen

Thanks. Panasonic FZ1000. I only bought it last month after my previous Panasonic (at least 12 years old) packed up. It was repairable but the cost was prohibitive.

The FZ1000 was discontinued in August but had a much better rating than its replacement the FZ2000 and was over £300 cheaper :rolleyespink:. Apparently they have now brought out a Mk II version of the 1000 but that is also over £300 more. It wasn't cheap at £370 but the quality lens is costly.

It's a bridge camera and has a Leica lens with a 24-400 manual zoom (haven't bothered to check what the digital zoom is. I don't want all the fancy gadgetry on it (why would I really want to bother with it having wifi?) and I'm not interested in most of the capabilities and with it also being a movie camera. I just want it to take good snapshots - which it does - as long as I point it in the right direction.

My previous camera had a nice soft material carrying case that fixed to my belt, which made it very easy for walking around all day with it (as we did on holidays - I dimly remember those ). This camera is half an inch too big, all round, to fit in the case. I'm not sure I shall get another case as this camera is quite a bit heavier and would probably pull my trousers down if I put it on my belt! Although it might make me famous :heehee:

Watching the BBC News tody. A program called CLICK is also featured.

WOW! A section of the program was devoted to narious new X-Boxes etc coming onto the market. Goodness me. What are things coming to, when people spend much of their time, playing with their things:rolleyespink:
Then another part of the program entered the world of abuse. I've always had this thought that. One day these gadgets might actually take over our lives. It was quite a lemgthy item. It included some interviews with women who have suffered abuse, especially during this covid pandemic.
Forgive me for perhaps sounding soft, but I just can't understand how, anyone claiming to love their mate, could act in such a vile way. I lost my mate ten years ago, but call me daft. I still love her. There was always that total trust between us, and my two daughters at times say, how thankful they had a dad who never abused them in any way.

This program identified how with modern technology, such vile husbands/partners, can/could track their mate's movements via their mobile phone, with added apps they could visually spy on them etc. Can take control of their personal banking etc. I really don't know. I admit I don't undersatnd much of this techie world, and if this is an indication. I don't want to know.

Sorry friends, but Mike is well and truly 'Peed off'. I have been a member of EBay and Amazon for several years. About a week ago. I couldn't login to Amazon. Strange as, the usual screen would appear. Hello Mike etc etc. Then the box to login. No end of attempts, all failed. At one stage, I was asked to provide the expiry date of my credit card. This card was replaced a few year ago. In the end. Granddaughter Chloee had a go, still the same. So eventually she set up a new account. Wonderful.

For about the same period of time. My Ebay was displayed differently. Not to my liking. I ordered some horticultural grit. The page had displayed a message, that things weren't working proper. Come to checkout and I couldnt pay, I use Pay Pal. So I took it that the purchase hadn't gone through. Tonigh I get an email ftom the seller, demanding payment, with a warning that non payment will basically blacklist me. Thankfully I don't ow a soul a penny. This news really has peed me off. For days now, Info on Google lists the problems, yet Ebay, one of the biggies on the net, is failing to act. GGGGRRR!

Moving away from the electronics part of todays technology...

I've just finished doing a small metal artwork project for the garden. To make it, I used a tool called a Plasma Cutter. A relatively new thing for home use. In one sense, I was pleased with the result. It took far less time due to being able to use a "modern tool" than it would have taken to do the same job perhaps 20 years or more ago.

On reflection though, the one thing that it has done is taken away the skills that I would have needed back then. So I'm divided.

I've seen videos of those in use @Sandy Ground and they do look to be quite the tool. Does it give a cleaner cut than using a saw or angle grinder?

How clean the cut is depends on two things. Amperage and cutting speed. Get them both right, and the cut is very clean. According to the manufacturer of mine, the kerf is 1,2mm. A lot less than an angle grinder, and some saws.
