A member of my staff lost his father who contracted Covid whilst in hospital due to heart problems - they kept him in whilst he shook off his relatively mild Covid symptoms and then discharged him as it would have been 'unsafe' to do the bypass operation needed. He died a few weeks later due to an aneurysm - and whilst this was on the death certificate, so was Covid and therefore formed one of the statistics.

It was even reported on the likes of the BBC that the government had admitted there was a significant miscalculation of fatalities, and whilst there was a 're-visit' of those numbers, we have absolutely no comfort that this would have been accurate nor was the data even there for them to be revised accurately at a later stage.

Just seen a clip on you-tube. The Polish Minister at the EU, slams the EU and Junkers for losing Britain.

This is a terrible on going issue. Matt Hancock has assured us that the NHS is 'still open for buisiness'
But we know that's just words.
Thousands if not millions of procedures have been cancelled as have out patient appointments.
But we can't blame the government or NHS for this can we?
Looking back they would have done things differently no doubt.
But this horrid virus was a bolt out of the blue and it's been and still is a roller coaster of doom and gloom.

Whilst Mr Blair was in the seat for quite a while, and experienced, everything that man says should be scrutinised, double checked, then checked again. All you need to know about Tony Wingnut is in his speech after lady Diana's death, fake tears, fake sentiment, a good speaker, but only in it to feather his own nest, from dodgy flat buying in Bristol, the question of the Iraq war, how he tried to pave his way to the top of the EU tree, until his mate Gordon no more boom and bust Brown stabbed him in the back. I write this with no animosity to you or your post, but Blair is a bad example, any of the PMs mentioned in the BBCs report, are pro EU, just like the BBC.

Yes and its ironic, how her court case will actually help Boris and co dealing with the current issue with the EU.

                  Nice one Gina.
Tony Blair could charm the birds out of the trees when in his prime.
I remember his starry eyed smiles as he stopped journos in their tracks to remind them that 'we are NEW labour'
He didn't need to be sincere, his skill was the ability to convince..
I agree with Simon that it's good to listen to him. He is a professional politician.
I like to watch Trump too, but that's because he is such a good comedian.

That is true, JR, but he used that charm to lead the Country to economic disaster and realising his popularity was taking a steep dive, resigned and left the Government economically broken and the Treasury resources empty............ I see nothing in that that would make me get on my knees and bow my head in his direction, offer a sacrifice, and wail "Oh, Man who has been a Prime Minister, what a Great Man you must be to have been one, and I will ignore your economic disasters, false statements, taking the UK into a War on a false premise in order to be in the Club with your friends in the USA, because your vast experience and expertise that led to disaster after disaster." Most people has evaluated and assessed Blair for what he was, and still is, a narcistic personality who's belief that his opinions are Godlike and therefore of value to the World. So, since most people realise what a disaster he and Gordon Brown were it has become fair to say that, apart from the Media, his advice and opinions are put in "File 13".

That's a good thing??:doh::heehee: Professional Politicians take on as many non executive Director posts that they can, using the system to make as much money as they can, are members of the Club that looks after themselves. They brought Parliament to it's knees for months and made us a laughing stock in the World and an easy prey for the EU..........that's a pretty low bench mark to give them admiration.

This is what was thought of him when he resigned.......

Well, JR, he has certainly turned USA Politics into a joke!!:heehee:

It's not admiration that I've got for Tony Blair, it's more just an acknowledgement that he could impress so many of us and gain such large majorities.
I think a lot of his success was down to a fairly insipid opposition at the time.
I also acknowledge Margaret Thatcher as a great professional politician.
She was a joy to watch and even the late great Robin Day struggled to contain her at times. She was brilliant in any debate but I'd accept she didn't please everyone (who could?)
I'd rate Banksy as a good artist but personally i don't like filthy paint all over buildings and walls!

Hi, JR, I see your point.........but all of it depends on your definition of a "Professional Politician":dunno: For me, History has shown "Professional Politicians" have been those who put have put their own narcissistic careers and opinions of themselves ahead of the Nation, becoming drunk and detached from their responsibilities in the euphoria of the power of their position.

Maggie was a very strong character but again had no real empathy with the ordinary person on the street. She changed her Grantham, Lincolnshire accent to that in which she tried to emulate Royalty. People suffered under her economic policies, with the likes of Heseltine, Tebbit, Howe, etc adding greatly with their policies that amplified job losses and the lack of support making those without jobs and wanting to claim support as I heard it said "Enemies of the State".
Labour had been cutting back the Armed Forces and Maggie did the same so that when the Falklands Ware came we sent the only Aircraft Carrier we had out, only to have it break down after a couple of hundred miles. We had to hire Cruise Liners, Freight Ships, Tankers to send our depleted, under resourced Arm Services into the War as everything had been stripped to the bone in the military resources. It wasn't Maggie Thatcher's strong character that won the Falklands War, it was our under resourced, depleted Armed Forces and yet she made "I'm the Great Leader who is winning the War, so worship and adore me"speeches.

So, for me, the term "Professional Politician" has more negative than positive connotations but I can see why Strong Characters are admired despite the reality of their actions.
