What a contrast! We have over 3,000 hours sunshine a year and clear blue skies for most of the year! We average 12 hours of sunshine a day in the summer and 6 hours in the winter with mild winters and long, hot summers. When we get some rain in the Algarve, most of it occurs in the ‘serras’ the mountainous area just North of us about 20 minutes drive, and the coastal area averages just 50mm (2 inches) a year. We are halfway between sea and hills. We are hoping to have a wet winter this year to fill the dams and refresh the earth.

@Victoria ,..jealous of all the sunshine you get and the little amount of rain as compared to here,..imagine we have 232 days of rain leaving us with only 133 dry days and many of them are dull days,..still we don't have a set climate,..mild winters compared to England yet we are not so far from each other,..snow fall remaining on the ground works out at about every 8 years,..2010 then 2018,..tis no wonder our crops look so lush with so much water about.

Your Dams look a tad low on water but in a scenic area,..hark at all those hills,..very scarce hereabouts,..ah a sandy beach beats all and not too far away for you to enjoy.

Although I love all your greenery, Phillip, I would be a very SAD person all the time.

Yes, our dams are very low at present. We have five in Algarve, three of which are in my County of Silves and we are centrally located hence the mountains. There is one to the East and one to the West. The two above (I changed the Odelouca pic) plus the one below which is close to me. There is a nice drive between Funcho and Arade.

                      Funcho ...

We also have this waterfall 20 minutes away ...

The sad thing is folk who visit Algarve only think of it as beaches and never discover the beautiful interior/hinterlands just moments away.

We had a surprise rain in the wee hours which was very welcome. It is grey now but warm.

@ARMANDII,..lol it wouldn't surprise me at all as in 2018 i spotted a Turtle or Terrapin as captured below,..it was in the Canal just close to where it meets the river,..Rainbow Trout appear now and then,..most likely escaped from a private lake where Anglers Fly Fish,..the usual is Wild Brown Trout.

The Turtle and a dumfounded duck.

                          @Victoria ,..

Nice images of the lakes,..the one of Funcho is more like what ours lakes look like,..i can see the dam in the image you changed' its a great birds eye view.

Very true about visitors going to see the coastal towns and missing out on the Hinterlands,..i love wandering away from the usual sights and exploring further afield.

I agree with your comment that you would be sad all the time with our climate,..one could well crack up hereabouts,..i was walking Foxy Molly in two areas today,..never met one person,..not that it bothers me as that's what i like,..isolation,..away from the maddening crowd lol.

Delighted you got rain,..may you have lots more but short of floods of course :)

Blue sky for a short spell today.

Love that duck and turtle. Cats love being ornaments. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Yes, I prefer peace and solitude. People these days are lacking in something to me and I avoid crowds ... I won't go to a shopping center. Actually, I do all personal shopping on line now.

What a lovely first picture above ... is that called a weir?
