    I watched the Trump/Biden election debate last night - the debates are 2.00 a.m. - 3.30 a.m.

It consisted of both of them slagging off each other (Trump did more slagging :rolleyespink:) and Trump interrupting a lot more than Biden did.

The person running it did try hard to keep them to the issue being discussed but (Trump again!) ignored him as much as possible. I think he should have had a button for turning off the microphone of the one not talking.

Biden is not a good debater but did better than I expected. Trump is very good on the podium but spouts a lot of lies that are demonstrably not true - as pointed out by a couple of commentators afterwards.

I think it did nothing to change the minds of supporters of both sides and don't think it would sway any 'undecideds' either way.

Nothing much of what Biden said has stuck in my head and the only things that Trump said that stuck in my head were prevarications and obfuscations instead of answering the questions. The three main things I can remember him avoiding were:-

Question about him only paying £750 tax last year and no more than that (or nothing at all) for ten years. His response was he had payed millions in tax - but everything he mentioned was corporate taxes.

Question on Climate Change he avoided totally by just keeping on saying the fires in California were just bad forest management by the local authorities. He wouldn't answer anything about the hurricanes and floods and just repeated his 'bad forest management' comments.

Question about whether he condemns the extreme right wing groups was totally ignored with a slight slip that gave the impression that they were misunderstood. (I drew that impression but the commentators avoided it completely.)

There were other things on both sides but they haven't stuck in my head. :dunno:

Is it recommended watching? Definitely not!!!

Glad I didnt stay awake to watch in then. Trump is the most scariest person in the World right now. Im not sure Im keen on any of the candidates but how the Americans are taken in by him never ceases to amaze and alarm me. I really thought the day at the beginning of the year when he said that Covid 19 was just a bad cold and that the USA would be open for business as usual by Easter would change everything. Alas no. Our government may have made a mess of everything but at least they tried to do something rather than joke about it. I wonder how many Americans will have to die before they understand Trump's ego serves nobody but himself. It really frightens me that Trump is the most powerful man in the world and has his finger on the big red button. I fear he'd just love the opportunity to push it one day just because he can. (I know its not quite that simple but you know what I mean)

I have just remembered one question put to Biden, by Trump and not the interviewer, and it was about the supposed payment of millions/billions? to Biden's son by Russians and Chinese. Biden, naturally, denied it and said it was a lie. I have no idea either way :noidea: but it was in response to the question asked of Trump about his lack of personal tax.

Biden was also asked whether he supported making places for more judges as the current replacement Trump has put forward, to replace the one that died, would make the political number of judges completely unbalanced. He didn't answer it.

Other things may occur to me later.

Didn't Trump threaten that after the debacle??? Trump only seemed to recognise himself as being on the Podium and I can't why the Media, or anyone else, was surprised that he tried to turn it into a brawl.
I'm no fan of either "candidates" but the simplest, most effective thing that Biden did was mostly not to talk directly to Trump but to talk directly into the camera and the people watching. I think the fact that Biden refused, mostly, to be dragged into a slanging brawl but basically ignored Trump's continuous interruptions was really frustrating to Trump.
So, even if God was talking on the Podium Trump would have kept continuously interrupting him and not allowed any sort of reasonable discussion. It must have cost a lot of effort for Biden to ignore the temptation to mostly ignore Trump's falsifications, insults, rants, claims, and refusal to actually answer some of the simple questions that the Moderator asked him. So, I don't think that anyone of us could stand on the opposition Podium and get any sensible response or truth from Trump's brawling interruptions.

People say that the US election shouldn't concern us but of course it should. Unfortunately what happens over there in politics WILL whether we like it or not affect all us eventually one way or another to some degree. Sadly they are still all powerful although I think China are sneaking along and that's possibly even more worrying. I actually feel embarrassed watching Trump speak as he is like a real life Spitting Image puppet and you just never know what's going to come out his mouth. He is a bully who likes the sound of his own voice and he just cant hear anybody else. Also someone should wrap him across the knuckles whenever he gets near a computer to post a tweet! Im not saying I like Biden either just to be clear. Please bring Obama back. His health care initiative alone should have got him a sainthood.
It seems to me that elections everywhere are no longer about voting for who you want to win but voting for who you want to defeat the other one that you dont like.
What a sad state of affairs world politics has become if you vote for somebody who you dislike the least. Whatever has gone so wrong???

Not sure why people over here get so involved in American politics, I watch what goes on, but to me Russia's Putin is more of a threat and the Chinese bunch, whoever they are are pretty deadly, but for some reason they dont get much air time.

Only saw the highlights (arguing and sharp comments). Don reminds me of Ian Blackford - constantly talking over others. Joe has very little character - he reminds me of Major. Don might be a bit Boris-like - but he at least does have some sort of personality.

I can't stand seeing or hearing Trump....have to either turn the tv off or leave the room. He's so oily he makes my skin creep.

Agreed, clanless, but who would ever, ever, want to have a "personality" like that? Being a narcissistic, egocentric, aggressive constant liar such as Trump doesn't give him any positive marks for defining him as "having at least some sort of personality", but it does beg the question of the personalities of the Americans in being duped/led into voting such a character into the position of President of the USA.
I don't think we, in the UK, would be led into the same situation, (Well, okay, leave Blair and Thatcher out of it:heehee:) by anyone acting like Trump does.
I'm also in complete disagreement where Politicians, in a majority party, in the USA can place Judges of acknowledged certain political views with a view to getting that Political Parties agenda sanctioned. Such legal formations should free of politics in order to be neutral and fair with a balance of views but that is obviously not the case in the USA.:wallbanging:

True - and who would have thought that a bloke who played a cowboy on TV would have been elected President...

If I was to get out my crystal ball - I would predict that Don will win again. He is strong when it comes to commerce - and when it comes to votes - voters like money in their pocket. I'm not entirely sure what Joe's strong points are....
