Very manic here this afternoon after being out all morning. Lots needed doing before our 3 days of bad weather began. Mowed the lawns ,picked the remaining fruit, staked all the 6ft+ Cosmos, secured the Rudbeckias, Sunflowers, restaked the Delphiniums .Then moved all my precious cuttings taken from my parent's garden to the large walled coldframe along with the hardy seedlings. When round and did all the deadheading. Moved all the patio pots to a sheltered place. Moved the Lemon Tree into our porch for the winter after checking it over for scale insects and other unwanted creepy crawlies.Moved the Blueberry and Olive into the greenhouse out of harms way of the wrong winds......hopefully we are now prepared, but I bet we won't be!!

Thank you. They have all been bought by a local couple. They have started a collection of my art pieces apparently and the shop tells me they wish to commission me to make them something more bespoke. Waiting for them to contact me.

One of my compost bins does not have a hatch or ventilation holes, it is just a plastic bin with a lid, so inspection of its contents is difficult. I noticed today that some of the resident rodents ( who frequent both bins ) have been busy excavating the contents of the bottom of this bin. Much to my surprise there is compost :). I am delighted, home made compost :yahoo:. There was not a lot but enough to add a generous layer to the top of a Belfast sink. I have planted my remaining violas into it.

Afternoon @Perki thanks for your reply. Well to be honest, I have not thought that far ahead, just wanted to see if I could get anything to actually germinate really. As trees take a long time to grow I thought if I did have any success then I’d have a few years before I needed to ask that question myself. Maybe start a forest from a lottery win sometime in the future......dream...dream...dream! :)

Made a light box, very diy but should work. Have been making pots from loo rolls and saving mushroom boxes as mini propagators. The clear containers are the best (Asda I think) will gradually replace all the brown base ones with clear ones to help reflect as much light as possible, ready for Jan/Feb veg sowings.

Today I'm just about resisting emotional blackmail.

This morning Sarafi the cat waited until he heard me working in the kitchen and then walked out in the pouring rain, from his executive armchair under the covered pergola, stared up at me at the window saying he wants to come in (he's not our cat!) and then sat in full view sheltering from the rain under a wheelbarrow.

When that didn't work he came to the back door and yelled to come in
                P1490931.JPG

After about five minutes of being ignored he went into the greenhouse (we keep the door open just enough for him) and climbed into the heated propagator (we keep a small section open for him)

It's now early evening and he's still in the propagator. :heehee:

He's gorgeous @shiney and clearly knows he's got it good, so sweet that he's still in the propagator! Does he ever go into the house? We had the same thing happen with a kitten who adopted us a couple of years back, she turned up in the garden one day and never left, she has a cat flap leading into our summer house so she can come and go.

He's always trying to get into our house and knows he's not allowed.

Not a lot at all. A quick trot round the greenhouse to see all is well. Probably order vegetable seed today as I want some garlic for autumn planting.

Nothing doing here except opening up the greenhouse and coldfames and checking on all the seedlings and cuttings......must remember to shut things up again, not due to the temperature but to protect from the rain that is heading out way again later.

Split up hostas and replanted. The ground is perfect for digging and the birds are eagerly awaiting the worms:)
The dahlias and cosmos are still doing well so just deadheaded them. Maybe I'll leave the dahlias in the ground again. I'll mulch around them when I cut them down later in the month.
Cut overlapping branches of an acer which was growing into a crabapple tree.
Cleared debris from next doors ash tree which had blown in our garden.
                          Then rain stopped play:)

Snap @alana , I'm still debating whether or not to take a chance leaving all the Dahlias in situ again ..out of the 11 only one failed to show. Two or maybe three need moving as they've got too big so may well over winter them though. Decisions, decisions.:dunno:

Nothing for a few days because it's still raining.

Had 30 tulip bulbs and 25 free narcissus arrive yesterday, put them in the garage for now.
