Jan and I went last week for a flu jab, the booking for it was very easy at our surgery, after receiving letters. We were given times of 4:30 and 4:35. The car park was virtually empty, so we donned our masks and were told to walk straight in for the jab. We were out and back home in twenty minutes, but it was a lovely day out! :)

There was a massive queue around the car park and along the road. There were 5 injection rooms on the go so we kept moving luckily the rain held off, it took us 50 minutes in the queue but very quick once we got inside. Must be more people taking it this year.

Worse thing was the traffic with lots of seniors driving very slowly trying to get as close as possible to the surgery. Looks like many hadn't driven since before lockdown. When we arrived there had been a bad accident blocking the car park with police, ambulances and recovery trucks. Looked like a slow motion head on crash, with all the poor parking the road was difficult to negotiate.

My friends in Manchester, both in the vulnerable age sector:old:, were phoned by their Doctor's Surgery giving them a date for the Flu jab , but when my friends pointed out that they were away in Conway in Wales for 3 days on a booked holiday break over that period and asked for a postponement, they were told that that date would not be postponed but cancelled.
You would have thought that the Surgery would have some flexibility knowing, from their own practising experience over the years, that some people would not be able to accept that mandatory/fixed date and been prepared to have a alternate date to offer especially to those who were in the age group that makes a Flu jab a priority.:wallbanging:

And that, is what my friend told me over the phone, is what my friend told me he was going to do. But it does seem to me that the very people in some of our GP Surgeries who are supposed to be serving the community are becoming more restrictive and, in effect, less caring.

Yeah, I always though getting a flu jab could be dangerous, sounds worse than I thought.

I've had a couple of text messages say they are doing flu jabs on two saturdays and I should call to make an appointment.
The one phone line to the surgery is always engaged at the best of time, add to that all those trying to make appointments for flu jabs and I dont think there is much chance of getting through.

Last time I called them it took me over an hour and 26 attempts to get through.

I wish you well with getting an appointment - the chemist that Mrs C works in has stopped taking bookings now as they cannot get sufficient jabs.

Online bookings with the surgery would be a better option...
Imagine if you needed to phone your supermarket for a home delivery, or phoning the tip for a booking slot.. I guess you'd be listening to the nutcracker suite for hours.

                          Online, what's that.
I was told by my surgery that they rarely look at online requests for repeat prescriptions, its not monitored?:frown:
Best to call us they said, but dont call in the mornings because we dont do that in mornings, only afternoons:roflol:

Online appointment are suspended due to coronavirus:roflol: isn't everything.:dunno:

Oh and they are closed thursday afternoons, so dont call then or at weekends.

I was asked to make a telephone appointment with my GP - - to do an asthma check, over the phone....

Needless to say, I haven't bothered.

Hello @Fat Controller I thought I would give the chemist a ring and I was informed that due to increased demand they have no vaccine in stock and wouldn't be getting any,ah well I could always try my local Tesco's but I haven't been in a shop for 8 months:smile:
