Thanks so much @Logan ,I have actually seen these before and it was her advice that I followed last year.
I posted some pics on here at the time as our borders looked as if they were under attack from a load of moles!!!:lolpt:[IMG]
Trouble was that the birds messed up and scattered the compost, so this year I thought I would try covering the compost with upturned wire hanging basket planters..:fingers crossed:

That's great , @Upsydaisy I just like putting videos up :biggrin:and yes black birds are the worst for doing that. I like dahlias but they don't grow well here and if it's a wet summer the slugs and snails have a feast day, don't use any pellets or anything else

I protect all my Dahlias when they first start to shoot ,during the day, with large plastic bottles with their bases removed and then cover them with large flower pots at night, this really works at protecting them from slug/ snail attacks. After a few weeks they put on enough strong growth and aren't bothered by them any more. We don't use pellets or any other kind of bug killer either..the only thing I do is hunt out and squish are Lilly Beetles!!! I feel bad about that too!

They're so blatant and sit on the leaf waiting for us to come along, that I sometimes get the feeling that, given the chance, they would sit on the leaf in a Deck Chair, put on Sunglasses, and eat some Ice cream quite happily.:dunno::doh::heehee:

I took advantage of the dry period we're having here in Cheshire this morning by getting into the garden and pulling off any dying leaves from the Bearded Iris, then cutting the remaining green leaves down to a third of their length to prevent the possibility of wind rock disturbing the roots. I thought I'd done all of the Bearded Iris but, now that I'm back in the House, I've realised that I'd forgotten, and still have to cut the leaves, of around 17 or so that are on the West side of the Patio:doh::wallbanging: :old::pathd: But, it's just started to rain so that will have to be a "Tomorrow" job:dunno:
I'd also left a 30 litre bucket of mixed compost out on the Patio yesterday and found it filled up to the brim with rainwater, so I've had to tip it into another container, which has holes in the bottom, so that the compost can drain.
Sticking a pair of Scissors and a pair of Secateurs in my back pocket I decided to have an amble around the garden and did some dead heading of the Roses, refilled the Bird Feeders, cut back some of the Gladioli, and admired the drifts of Rudbeckia "Goldsturm" that are making such a good show:love30:..............and then it started to rain, so I headed for the House, the Kitten/Cats and a Mug of Tea.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

The rain finally stopped here early hours so today has been pretty dry. I pottered around checking on things and deadheading a little and just generally tidying up. I've decided I'm going to leave the saliva in the ground this winter :yikes: they are over 4ft tall and the roots seem pretty deep so I'll cut them down soon and pop some protection on them then pray to the salvia gods to be kind :fingers crossed: apart from that most things are still in flower
Oh and forgot to add that the philadelphus Snowbelle has begun to flower now which is strange as everywhere I've read says early summer :dunno:

:rain: and :rain: and :rain: and more :rain: coupled with strong winds for past 2 days. Keeping birds and rats supplied with food and fresh water in baths/bowls had been my only excursion into the garden :heehee:. And cleaning out :hhog: feeding station .

And speaking of poo, yesterday morning I had the experience of Dimitris deciding to trail poo from the litter box in the hallway, through the kitchen and into the bedroom. Big lumps that were stuck on his bum and dropped off. He then proceeded to clean off the remains lumps by eating them :hate-shocked::hate-shocked::hate-shocked::hate-shocked:. I was almost sick. Currently not speaking to that cat again. Roger was working so I had to clean up the mess. Why did I ever agree to that cat coming here to live !

You know you love him. Bless, hope he is not ill, maybe he has been constipated and needs something to soften things up.

Was up at my mums/grandmas for a couple of days last week. My two brother came to help out. Older bro built her a big raised bed and my younger bro smashed up an old concrete path and cleared it into a skip ready to plant a hedge boundary instead. He also jet washed the fence.
                              0D84B35F-4DFA-4890-8259-1E615AD1EBAC.jpeg 5BEAD348-254D-489F-B8E0-0B1179AC56C3.jpeg
I cleared a big over grown area (Full of old tree roots :gaah:) and put in some edging and levelled off an area for my mums greenhouse to go. Put weed suppressant down for it too. Also cut back the neighbours overgrown tree to let a bit more light in.

We also got rid of an old bath tub my grandma was using to make compost. The garden is far too much for her to cope with now bless her.

Today I've potted up all my bulbs. The cosmos are still blooming so haven't been able to plant them all in the garden yet.

Moved the bird table into a new position in front of the kitchen window...much nicer view now :)
